| 2 New Internet options from Sasktel I work for a dealer that sells sasktel products... recently Sasktel came out with a couple of new services so I figure i should announce them in here.
The first product: Sasktel Wireless Internet
This program is just starting and coverage is not all that great yet, but the goal is to cover rural areas that are out of reach of DSL (DSL is now available in almost all communities in Saskatchewan)
The service costs 59.95 /month with a 249.00 equipment charge along with an installation fee. The download speeds are 2mbit, unsure of the upload as of yet... likey 384kbit
Target customers are likely those that live on a farm and have dial up internet. More info can be found @ www.sasktel.com
The 2nd new service: Sasktel HomeNet
HomeNet is an addon service to DSL... basicly it replaces the DSL modem with a DSL modem / 802.11g / 4 port switch
This service allows Sasktel to give support to home wireless networks (normally tech support won't help you set up your own network... wireless or otherwise)
The router is configured to be secure and allows the user to specify a dns name to your home network allowing you to securly access shares on your home network using a graphical web interface. Fee for homenet is 6.95/month

| Well the wireless stuff was announced to the public last year sometime... but with only very brief details.
I didn't actually receive info until a couple weeks before it was being released... would have told you guys about it sooner but i don't want to get in trouble.
Something you might notice right now is that Sasktel is not advertising either of these services right now... but if you go to the website they are available for purchase. Right now they want signup to be slow so problems are kept to a minimum. | |

| Actually this is a rural service, the town itself is served by DSL. The ISP is using the Motorola Canopy system, operates in license free 900mhz spectrum. Prices are, I agree, market driven, and that is perhaps why the disparity in pricing on the services. There is competition along the eastern Lake Ontario shoreline area. | |

| Re: 2 New Internet options from Sasktel Funny you should mention that... with Home net they were experiencing interference problems during testing (not sure how it's doing in real world cause havn't really installed it much yet)
But 2.4ghz phones will cause problems for homenet... that and microwave ovens.
In my opinion they should have with with 802.11a 5ghz doesn't seem to have as much noise. | |

| 900Mhz is a good choice for long distance coverage where line of site is iffy. Remember that attenuation of wireless signals is related to frequency. 5Ghz has much less range than 900Mhz, and 2.4Ghz is somewhere in the middle. So if your house is bordeline light of site with the tower, convince your neighbour to try it first before you buy.  At 900Mhz it might work. | |

And the USB link will not be supported. I'll post some picks of the device as well as some screenshots of the web interface.
Edit: I'm certain that is not the modem... seeing how it's a cable modem and Sasktel sells DSL service. | |

| Ah, i was refering to the HomeNet stuff.
so yes... that modem could very well be the right one.
Last i checked we didn't have the hardware in the store yet, when we do i believe our first install is for the construction site of the Circle drive / college drive overpass. | |

And yes you need to be in line of site of the tower. Coverage is approx 30KM radius around the tower.
To determine if your eligable you'll need to call jump.ca, I believe the procedure would then be to do a site assessment to see if we can get signal at your location. | |

| For HomeNet, Sasktel is using the 1800HG box. Damn fine wireless access on this baby. I cranked up the power on it and got signal at the park across the street from my house.  Now I can surf and the kids can play. | |

I stated the equipment was 249... but i didn't say much about the installation fee. The install fee is another $250, so after it's all said and done it's a $500 touch just to get everything set up...
Other Sasktel dealers may have a lower installation fee... this is just the fee from Jump.ca | |
