I've ran an old WIN 98 machine on a Celeron 500Mhz processor and been able to get my advertised speed. You have to take into account overhead. So seeing 5500 on a 6000/512 account is about right. The Celeron 500Mhz machine is now running XP. It uses a wireless card to access the net. I tested that machine today - with this pc running as well - the test for the Celeron machine was above 5300. I do agree that older equipment could be a source of speed issues. But in most cases as long as Insight has everything running as it should and your running a clean machine. You should see your advertised bandwidth. Even with an older operating system.
