I'm finding that I'm having trouble with some DNS servers within the Comcast network as well as some outside the Comcast network. The ones I am using no are 68.42.244.5 and 68.42.244.6 and they are working ok for me.

BlamPenguin PowerPremium join:2002-02-06 Philadelphia, PA | reply to mbernste I think we have a router problem (aside from any DNS issue) because I've been through swapping out the DNSs, including the root ones that you mention and even the old local ones that were here (68.80.0.5/6).
It's just useless. I'm wondering if it's that last hop in the CRAN tha was just put on that is having problems. |

| reply to mbernste Unfortunately in my area that doesn't appear to be the only problem. Another problem I'm having is that one of the routers I pass through to get to the Internet (12.118.114.17) keeps going up and down.
BTW the DNS entries 4.1.1.1 doesn't responsd for me, 68.87.96.3 works well though. --

OmenQSpazzPremium join:2003-03-21 Continuum | reply to mbernste That's because 4.1.1.1 isn't a DNS server. I believe the person who posted that intended to put 4.2.2.1 instead. 4.2.2.1-6 are Verizon DNS servers. I use them in cases like this because they are easy to remember.
Update on the status page: General Outage - Resolved at 4/7/2005 6:40:38 PM EDT
(Connection to the Internet is currently unavailable. Our technicians are aware of the situation and are working to resolve the issue. This outage was logged at : 4/1/2005 6:14:00 PM EDT.)
So they say they're working on it. I'll just stick to alternate DNS for now. -- "Why are there 6 pedals if there are only 4 directions?" |

 | reply to mbernste is it legal, or "kosher" to use, for instance, Speakeasy's DNS servers if you don't have an account with them? Do they mind? I would hate to use another ISP's DNS servers if that puts extra load on their machines, especially if the ISP isn't thrilled about Comcast customers using their DNS servers...
What is the status of these kinds of things - is it OK to do, or is it a gray area, or is it a bad idea? |

How can an outage be resolved and not resolved at the same time?
