 [Connectivity] *****Fix for outage*****

It looks like the east coast connectivity problem is a DNS issue. Change your DNS to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 release/renew the IP on your router (if using one) and on your computer. Thanks SuperNet33 See Profile!

Mine is set to obtain it automatically
Is that a problem,?
Am I going to have to do this on all my networked PCs?
Will I have to change it again later?

Except for the fact that the comcast network is completely down. Changing your DNS doesn't really do you much good when your modem isn't connected to your account at comcast.

Also do yourself a favor and use Speakeasy DNS servers instead of comcast.

If you have a router, just do it on the router and release/renew the IP on the router. You will then have to release/renew the IP on your computers.

awesome thanks. i just tried to call comcast like 10x and only got through 3 times. but when i did i just got through the menus, it put me on hold, then said sorry we're busy call back later and hung up on me.

lucky for me that the only site that seemed to work properly was dslreports.com (not even broadbandreports.com). weird.

added those dns's and now everything's working like a top.

Those DNS servers (4.1.1.1 and 4.2.2.2) won't work for me here in Michigan. I'm wondering if there is a routing problem somewhere within the Comcast network. The DNS servers that are given to me by DHCP do not work either so I'm using two other Comcast DNS servers. See the thread I stated entitled DNS issues in Michigan.

Make sure you release/renew on your computer as well as the router.

Thanks so much. This is definitely one strange problem. I thought my router dumped out on me. Then I tried 3 routers. The funny thing is it was working straightline thru the modem. I popped those ips in the router and all was well.

Funny thing is I suspected it was something local at first as well, though nothing changed. I rebooted my computer, checked the connection on my iPAQ, rebooted the router and modem and still nothing. Then I saw the sporadic connectivity and realized its not me, its Comcast.

I tried some old DNS numbers I used to have and they seem to be working. They are as follows;
68.62.160.5
68.62.160.6

Hope those work for you.

For us users that don't understand anything beyond the fact that Comcast's DNS's are screwed, how exactly do I fix this? Will those DNS's work across the US? I'm in MN.

I do know how to get into the settings for the router, but that's about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm on the west coast and Comcast has been down since about at least 4:30pm pacific time (close to 30 minutes now). I can't get through to them on the phone. I CAN ping both the DNS and DHCP servers at Comcast just fine. Right now I'm dialed up through my backup ISP.

In fairness to Comcast, this is the first major outage I've experienced in a few months, but it still sucks.

Yes, these DNS's will work anywhere, they're not Comcast's.
