1 edit | OT: Using a phone filter backward
I know that this is going to raise some eyebrows, so I did it and checked my stats before posting. (This only applies to phone filters that have phone and modem output jacks.) You can plug the line dongle of a phone filter into the DSL jack on the back of your modem/router and plug the line from the wall jack into the modem jack of the filter. A short line cord can then be connected from the phone side of the filter to a phone. Why would you do this? To eliminate having 2 long phone lines from the wall jack to your desk.
EDIT: It should be noted that phone filters DO NOT WORK BACKWARDS in other applications. |

| reply to Mtn Charley Of course, you could be like me and have one of the older wall plates, in which I have found out the filter is removable in. I keep it in my kit for when I need it for checking out other people's problems.
It comes in handy when I need it. -- One man's customer loyalty is another man's misguided arrogance. |

| reply to Mtn Charley neat-o..
if i had my modem anywhere near my desk, i might give it a try
but seeing as my modem is in a different basement, i wont worry about it tho.
cool discovery though, and yes, less cords is always good. |
