Re: Modem setup with Sonicwall TZ170

You can have "PPPoE is on the modem" selected with the dot in the gui, but you must also have a user ID and password entered for the modem to actually do the authentication.

Without a user ID and password entered and "PPPoE is on the modem" selected the modem will relay/bridge a PPPoE session.

If the modem is not doing the PPPoE session I don't think its possible to reach its IP address from within the PPPoE session.

Thanks for the replies, I mis-spoke. The modem should definitely be doing the PPOE.

Selected that option and added username and password. In addition my Sonicwall is set to DHCP on WAN interface. This is driving me nuts, it has to be something simple I'm overlooking.

Over the last year I've had three occasions were internet requests and 192.168.0.1 will get no response, turning the modem off then on resolves this.

The modem's DHCP server can be unreliable, I would avoid using it.

Start troubleshooting with a direct connection to the modem and work your way deeper into your Lan.
