| Broadband in Macomb, IL ?
I called Insight Communications in Macomb, IL asking if they offered broadband internet. They said 'no' but also said that they are working on it and are expecting it sometime soon. When I asked when they might have it, they said they are not sure.
I was wondering if anyone might know an ETA on when Insight in Macomb might offer internet.
I'm desperate! So far, the ONLY high speed internet offered my the area is winco.net, but this DSL company wants $50 a month for a 400/128 speed! Ridiculous!

| Re: Broadband in Macomb, IL ? Nearest Bestbuy is in Moline - almost 2 hours away
Macomb is a decent size town. Its home to WIU after all. You'd think they would have cable modem access there.
Anyone (maybe someone who works with Insight?) know when Macomb might get internet with Insight?

Macomb is only decent-sized compared to the towns surrounding it. WIU makes up half of the population. It is still primarily a farm town.
Why not go with Logonix DSL or Wireless? »www.logonix.com/

I never knew that DSL could be so slow.

| McDonough Telephone Cooperative (The local phone company behind the DSL CO. Winco.net) recently announced that they will soon offer Coaxsys IPTV 7000 TVnet Network to deliver Internet Protocol Television (TV through DSL). Now, is this wishful thinking or is a good TV signal impossible through a 400/128 DSL speed? So, then if this Telephone/DSL company wanted to incorporate IPTV, wouldnt they have to increase the download/upload speeds? | |

That seems to have worked for Springfield. When our city owned utility company looked into providing tv and internet over it's fiber loop, suddenly both SBC and Insight are being very nice to us.
Insight's actually pretty good. Far better than AT&T and TCI before them. If they're saying they're working on it I'd bet they get broadband to Macomb pretty soon. They don't usually even admit to it unless they are close. Best of luck!

| Nope. All that Insight said was that they should hopefully offer it sometime in the future.
I dont know if by future they meant near-future or distant-future.
I remember calling them back in May of 2004 about when they would offer HDTV for my area's local channels. They said sometime "in the future." And its almost May of 05 and they still dont have HD local channels in the area where I'm presently at now.

What is scary is that a little while ago Insight was offering 3000/128 for $45...if winco can offer you a nice low latency line with some sweet pings and not a someday throttled Sandvine infested network, that $50 might not be such a bad deal... my .02
