[Equipment] Found Critical Sipura Settings

Discovered two very important settings with the Sipura SPA-2000-this may apply to all models.
Under Advanced then the regional tab you may find the defaults for two setting that are incorrect..

1)Ring Frequency default is 25, it should be 20 hz for North America, 25 is for Europe, if this is not set to 20 the Unit will NOT ring older true bell system phones that have real bells for ringers.

2)CPC Duration default is 0, this will NOT allow CPC to work 0 means DISABLED, I set mine at .500 and it worked fine, also tried 1.0 and it worked fine tried .5 and it only would hang up sometimes.

Also, under the Provisioning tab, set the Provision Enable to NO or else on each refresh it will overwrite the settings you just changed with your providers settings...
The VOIP providers should know this and correct this but you know how it goes..they won't

Re: [Equipment] Found Critical Sipura Settings

If you have a phone with a hold button and you put an incoming call on hold and then nobody picks it up, when the calling party hangs up the momentary drop in voltage will cause the hold to release.

And I can't understand why Sipura would set the default to 25 Hz on units sent to North America. That will cause problems for almost any older phone with a mechanical bell, and there are still a lot of those around (some of us older folks like to have at least one phone with a "real" bell in it)! In the U.S. and Canada the "normal" ringing frequency is 20 Hz, as kwest See Profile said.

Yes, I dare say, many of do use the older type Western Electric phones... there is also a setting for ring voltage if you use the old trimlines and princess phones. You'll need to up that value.

Well, you actually don't have to because those phones will ring at 70 volts (the default) but the ring will be a lot healthier at 90 volts, which is the standard ring voltage in the U.S.A. and Canada.

Sine we are talking about Sipura settings, does anyone have a definitive answer as to what the FXS Port Power Limit setting does? This is set to 3 by default, but the options are 1 to 8. Does this have anything at all to do with the number of ringers it will support (doubtful), or the number of phones that can be off-hook at the same time (this would be more what I would guess), or perhaps something else? The Sipura manual gives no clue.

kwest,

Thank you for the post. I found that the defaults for my Sipura 1001 were incorrect as well. Also, I recommend that you change DTMF Playback Length from .1 to .5 which will correct a problem with some telephones sending tones to fast.

Thanks,
I reset my ring frequency on my Sipura 2100. But I still often have trouble dialing into services like automated banking, or trying to dial extensions at my work, since the touch tones still don't get sent, even when changing DTMF playback. Any more suggestions?
