said by JTM1051 :Another possible source of competition for Firefox is Netscape 8. In past versions of Netscape 7.x the full installation included the basic plug-ins (including Mozilla ActiveX) so users had a browser that would render basically all web site without having to fuss with installing plug-ins. If Netscape does the same for Netscape 8, your "Average Joe/Jill" who wants to see music videos at Yahoo! Launch will probably prefer Netscape 8 to Firefox. If Netscape retains the same EULA for the final Netscape 8 as the Beta theres no way I'd install on my system! Those who want customization will stick with FF. Personally, I can't stand all the crap Netscape incorporates into their installs. And like you if they continue with the EULA they have in their beta it will never be installed on my box. -- God put me on this Earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now, I am so far behind I will never die. |

2 edits | Another 1.0.3 build was put out tonight. It seems to not break any or most extensions and no problem with any java script freezing. Been running it here for a couple of hours..all my extensions carried over fine, no java script freezing (it also fixed the security bug), and seems very stable here on my end. »weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/ "Thanks everyone for your diligence with all the testing and feedback. We have gotten a lot of great feedback; you guys rock!
It feels like we've finally closed in on things and we're getting ready to wrap up this 1.0.3 release. I'm gonna be very cautious about calling any thing a "final" candidate, but this one feels close.
Also, we think we've got a solution that doesn't break every extension under the sun but we need your help to verify that along with any other testing help you all can give us." |

| storm64007,
As to "latest build" are you referring to "Gecko/20050406 Firefox/1.0.3" i.e., the latest build at the time of your previous post or the 1.0.3 RC released today (04/07/05)?
I'm still using "Gecko/20050406 Firefox/1.0.3", most likely stick with it until the 1.0.3 Final is released. No problems with this version that I've noticed so far. Just tried the BBR MegaPath Speed Test -- no problems.
Have you looked at JavaScript Console (Tools, JavaScript Console) to see if any errors? The "Gecko/20050406 Firefox/1.0.3" RC was preset with the "javascript.options.showInConsole" set to "True" in about:config. (At least in the "firefox-2.0.3.en-US.win32.installer.exe" I downloaded was) |

| reply to Peterg1 said by Peterg1 : (Partial but relevant quote) ......to mess around like we constantly do with tinkering with this and tinkering with that and I am sure the novelty has worn off for many. Peter Ok, here I go again. (The good news is, you won't have to listen to me much in the Mozilla Forum anymore, unless I can maybe help someone out at times).
I'll be honest with you. I've recently come to realize that the "Novelty" has indeed started to "wear off" for me....how sad. I realize I said earlier that I "like tweaking", but upon further reflection, I think this is almost becoming comical now.
Personally, I'm about as close as I've ever been to yanking this "never ending Beta" (and I'm talking since DAY ONE of the release of Firebird), from all four of my machines. I may keep it on one "just for fun", but trying to keep up with this nonsense on four of them is just plain silly now.
To people that continue to think this Browser is the greatest thing since sliced Bread, and continue to rag on Microsoft, all I can say is that as far as I'm concerned, this project is almost a joke now. I can't help but wonder how long it will survive. (Unless of course Microsoft buys it).
I may be "Cruising With Opera Beta 3" myself shortly. Or just continue to use IE and Maxthon while eagerly awaiting IE7, where I can enjoy browsing instead of spending half of my life uninstalling and reinstalling a bunch of back yard experiments. -- I had a life once.....now I have a Computer and a Modem. |

| I'm starting to think along those lines also. Trying to keep up with with the constant barrage of updates on multiple machines is starting to wear on me. I will definitely be checking out IE7 when it becomes available. I will miss the tabbed browsing though -- "It's a nice day if you wake up in Disneyland" |

| reply to JTM1051 Here's the kicker, tried the last Nightly build of 1.0.3. Same problem, so this time after renaming my profile folder & letting FF 1.0.3 remake a new profile, I started FF and re-installed every extension I had installed in the other profile. I then copied over all the text files that I had edited as well, user.js, prefs.js, and the userChrome.css & userContents.css in the chrome folder from the profile that didn't work to the new profile. FF 1.0.3 works fine now. And if I run one of the earlier FF's (like the last Autofox) it works fine with the new profile as well.
So the big question is WHY? Both profiles have the same extensions & themes installed, the same edited files, but FF 1.0.3 was picky over the first one. Ah, the fun adventures playing with nightly builds. (Of course, if Mozilla hadn't stopped providing ZIP files for the ones they offer on their main download page, I WOULDN'T have to use the nightly builds to get a Non-Installer version of FF!!! )
I did discover another neat use for Listzilla though. I had it make a HTML list of all my extensions & themes before I started. When 1.0.3 was running,I then dragged the extension list html file into the browser & made it my homepage. I them just went down the list & clicked on each link to install that extension. Made it easier when restarting the browser each time! Same with the themes HTML file. -- Q: What should you never do if you find some invisible ink? A: |
