| reply to DOCSISGUY2 Re: logs from modem
Why post anonymously ?
I said have have seen it work at a -18 with no problems. The operative word there is "seen", did I say that it is that way with all modems in all situations? NO At a -14 you could very well experience problems but not in every situation. So I guess I never changed my position on the matter you have just spoken without thinking. I will tell you like I have said before »www.hookedonphonics.com give it a try it might help because you obviously didn't read any of it very well or can't comprehend it. |

Whats a good signal level? this is what I got
Signal Acquired at 555.000 MHz Connection: Acquired SNR: 29.0 dB Frequency: 26.0 MHz Received Signal Strength: -16.1 dBmV Power Level: 46.8 dBmV Micro-Reflections: 36 dBc Channel ID: 5 Modulation: 64 QAM Modulation: QPSK
It looks good you should be fine.
Here is another quote from you.
A -16 will work the cutoff we use when installing the service is -15
Now from earlier in this post.
If that -14 is downstream then that is very low
So a -14 is very low yet you will leave an install of a customer at -15? To you a -16 looks good? I am interested why you would ever leave a customer install with what you deem a very low signal? Or is -16 actually better then -14? Since you say a -16 looks good yet -14 is very low that would appear to be what you are saying. You try to imply that I do not know how to read. Perhaps you should first figure out what you are saying and what you truly believe. |

| reply to DOCSISGUY2 The standard is + or - 15, would I leave an install that has a level that low ? No I use -10 to +5 for the levels during install because of the problems that can occur from temperature fluctuation and other interference. My saying it looks good was a mistake when I read it I skimmed through and looked at the power level so that was what I was referring to that is my fault. I didn't go back after noticing it an correct my statement. |

| reply to indy0365 Robby is right, at an install you are to have -5 too +5 at the modem, that is how the installer is trained, as a service guy i do not want to see any less then -10 with a no more then 50 too 55 rec. power. if you have a -18 then you should have intermittent connects and loss of packets |
