Re: Wireless in Hotel

I have always wanted to try a mesh in a hotel. I just put a bid on a large french quarter new rv park. Its a rather large rv park so 3 nodes to cover everything. I didnt want to have to run cat5 to each one so this makes it easy. Not sure how hard it is to get wire in this hotel. I also thought about setting up a simple vdsl switch in the phone room of a hotel. Use vdsl modems in say 6 rooms throught the hotel. Then a wireless A/P from each one. It would eliminate alot of wiring IMO. Just a thought. I think too much I guess.

use the same SSID and different channels on each so they don't over lap

They need about 6 APs to cover the whole hotel. In the past when I've done this, I've used a different SSID on each AP. I'm thinking it may work better if I use the same SSID on each AP, this way the front desk can keep ethernet wireless adapters on hand that are already tied into the correct SSID. They can loan them to guests.

Will this work? Will it seek out the strongest signal? Or will I get problems with it associating to an AP it can barely see? Am I better off using one SSID or a seperate SSID for each AP?

Thanks,
Roger
