Not Japan, though

The US isn't leading the charge toward broadband... we're lagging far behind in terms of both speed and broadband adoption rates.

For instance, Canada leads the US in broadband usage, and Japan is so far ahead of us that it's normal there for people to have a 45Mbps connection, for which they pay an average of $36.00 US.

Sorry, this should have been posted as a reply to the main thread... in reply to a poster stating that the US was the leader in broadband.

The whole bandwidth thing is vastly over rated. Very few applications available today have any need for anything over 1.5M, and few if any servers will feed you much faster than that. Other than the BT kiddies no one needs more "speed".

SBC is offering the lowest rate in the country for broadband, perhaps even in the hemisphere, and I applaud them and hope it gets them the market share they deserve.

...uhh? apparently you don't download lots of things... i download game movies, patches, demos, beta clients of mmorpgs, and I can tell you with certainty that snarfing the 4GB World of Warcraft or EQ2 clients for their beta tests was a LOT easier at 300KB/s...

Yeah - I included the exception of P2P kiddies, but even most people who download won't always see the speed difference(with the exception of BT) because many DL servers are throttled.
