I called this Tuesday (4/5/05) and spoke to the csr in retention and was able to get my plan rerated from $26.95 to $19.95 w/ a 1-yr contract.
Hmmm, that's interesting. The offer originally offered was to expire March 31st.

My understanding is that the promo was extended and June 30th has been mentioned as the new expiration date.

Tried to get re-rated to $19.95 and was denied. Have the basic 26.95 384k service. CS rep said no, you can't; I asked for retention. Retention said they can't offer me a rate lower than $26.95.

I have until April 30 to decide to leave SBC or renew at $26.95. Hmmm... might have to leave -- SureWest is offering $19.95 for 4 months of 10 Mbps service.

I wonder if SBC realizes that if I leave they lose me as a DSL customer and as a landline customer (2 POTS) if I go to SureWest.

I called today to double check and was told otherwise. I guess it's just a matter of getting a rep with a clue... so hang up and try again. It's definately their policy to honor the rate change.

I've heard they forget to take away your static ip of 7 years after you downgrade to dynamic pro $30 a month.

So, I've heard, ahahah.

Just remember to never call in for tech support again.

Still working as of April 13 2005 for me. I called and asked about canceling and signing up as a new customer and the phone support person said I didn't need to cancel, just mention it and I could get the new, lower ($19.95/month) rate for regular DSL. I also told the technician in my lab and he also called up and got the lower rate. Just to be clear, the only other service I have from SBC is my local residential phone service, no long distance or anything else beside DSL and local phone.

Took me two calls over an hour and 15 minute period to get switched. The first retention CSR was more than happy to cancel my DSL service. I hung up and finally got another one who understood the logic of how at $26.95 + $20 landline + $16 Sunrocket VoIP was more expensive than $20 Comcast + $16 Sunrocket (first six months anyway). She switched me to the $20 plan no problem. I'm starting to wonder if Comcast is the better deal after all though....

I heard here in LA Adelphia is matching SBC, which if it's true is a great deal.

I noticed in today's Best Buy ad that you can get Adelphia for $26.95 per month for six months:

I couldn't read the fine print. But what's the point in going for a low introductory price if they'll double the rate after six months? Unlike SBC DSL, with cable you'll never get to renew at the promotional price.

I was thinking of calling and upgrading to the Peo package but I think I might be far enough to where I'm not going to get much better then the 1.5(~1200kbs real workd) down I already have. Is there anyway I can check this out?

I just got re-rated at $19.95 (with a one-year commitment).

I called 800-579-7861, and asked to be transferred to customer retention, which they did.

I referred to the $19.95/month offer, stated that I had seen existing customers being offered in online postings, and asked to be switched to that rate. The customer retention rep said he could do that, evidently did data entry for 3 minutes or so, gave me an order confirmation number, and that was that. (I am currently paying $26.95 for DSL.)

Note that I do have an unlimited long-distance plan with SBC, but I do not have the all-distance plan.

Note also that I first made an earlier call in which I tried to get it through the normal CSR. The CSR said that I would only be eligible for the $29.95 speed upgrade offer, not the $19.95 rerating. I then asked to be switched to customer retention, and the rep said the same thing. I then asked to speak to a manager, but her manager was not available and would need to call me back. I said to do so. (Later, after I had gotten the $19.95 rate by calling back in, as explained above, the retention rep called back and said that her manager told her to offer me the $19.95 rate. I told her that I had already gotten it in the meantime, through another retention rep.)

All of this only took about 10-15 minutes, including both of my calls and the call-back from the manager.

I guess this is SBC's equivalent of the mail-in rebate. Jump through a few hoops, and you get your reward.

I have no LD plan with SBC and signed up for the $19.95 plan no problem. I have the very basic phone service with SBC.

I have to say, minus the 15% for TCP/IP overhead, I am achieving the Max. speed for the $19.95 plan. Very pleased here. Achieving 160kbs transfer rate.
