I agree

I agree. I remember RoadRunner back in '98 when I first got on the net. Talk about fast ! Then they turned down the speed to 2000 kb/sec several years ago without telling anyone. Sneaky B@#$#@!$ ! And speaking of more download speed...along with the 5000 down we presently get, how about 768 up ?

Great idea! That way we can hit our bandwidth limits that much quicker!

Now make sure you have bandwidth limits as #9...

This is all great, however; ltry living in a small town in Southern Missouri where the T1 lines are primary and the T3 lines are a gleem in someone eyes and then pay for 4.0MB down and get 510K and 768 UP and 41K. There is a long way to go for the AVERAGE users.

You dont hit bandwith limits any faster with 100 mbps than with 10mbps. If you down load 200 GB's a month on your 6 mbps line are you really telling me youll download 500 GB's on 100 mbps? You can download your content faster, but it isnt going to prompt you to download more than you do now.

That's not quite true if one downloads a lot of video content. This is especially true for high quality video feeds and movie trailers.

There are many times I find myself waiting for one download to finish so I can begin another. This cycle can continue for a couple of hours.

Bandwidth limits .... what is that ??? Here in SBCland there is no such thing as bandwidth limits. 5.0/520, soon to be 5.0/620 or there abouts with a coming upgrade.

We don't have no stinking bandwith limits !!!

You choose to live in AL, I choose to live in NJ....

Want availability? Move......

It's not my fault or the ISP's fault that you are living somewhere I can't even find on a map!

Uh..... I know when I had dialup a BIG file was 2 - 3 MB! Now a big file is usually 500MB+.... Even that I can handle cooly... I can safely say I have pushed 70 GB in one day on this line. With broadband you are NOT held back, it's total FREEDOM.

I can work fine with 10mbps/1mbps line, but it wouldn't hurt to get more bandwidth to get things done faster.

Time is money, or when you are having fun time is FUN!

I dont live in AL I live in Mass, and second Broadband should be available everywhere in this country, the government should control it or make it so everyone can get broadband, It will eventually happen that broadband will be financed by the government, Just look at the power grid, the interstate system phone lines, It will happen but It needs to happen sooner, America is behind by alot, S.KOREA= Nation wide Wireless hotspot, That'd be nearly impossible to attain in the US because fo the trees and hills and crap like that. S.KOREA government control broadband so everyone gets it, In america it could happen but we need politicians on our side, We as american have the Freedom to choose, We shouldn't be stuck on early 90s technology, or stuck with a broadband ISP who hold a monopoly. Now president Bush's statement saying all american should have broadban by 2007 Not gonna happen, unless he pushes for it, Something like that would gain Bush alot of supporters from the technology crowd, Will he push for it most likely not the monopoly Bells and Big cable companies Are signing pay checks to the Republicans, and don't think that they aren't doing this to the democrats also Alot of politicians are controled by who has the biggest paycheck. And Finally NJ is a craphole. You know why they call it the garden state? Cause the plant fields of ass along side the interstate. I WOULD NEVER LIVE IN NEW JERSEY, no offense I just dont like it there.

Can't find on a map? That's going a little too far, but I get the point. AL is behind most of the country in most things. I'm not asking for OOL or anything, just a reliable 1.5/256 DSL package would be fine for now. I can wait on speed. I would rather live in AL than NJ anyday. I would move to Birmingham or Montgomery before I would move to NJ.

Um, the problem is that ain't universal throughout "sbc land" Dunno where you are, but here the ILEC is SBC, which would make us part of "sbc land", and the best pacakage available is the "pro", which is 3.0/512.

The OLD ILEC here WAS running fiber to the node a few years back, but SBC came along and bought them out and put and end to that.

I REALLY hate SBC with a passion.

Really?

So you can name eight things you'd hate more than usage limits . Seriously, I don't think the problem is usage limits per se, but the fact that they are often not mentioned or codified. Most don't even know they exist until after the fact they are notified in the form of a nastygram or (more commonly) a sudden termination of service. When questioned about the existence of usage limits, the call center people seem to be either intentionally kept ignorant of them, or told to deny them. When one has "proof" of their existence (e.g. the aforementioned nastygram), it is almost a given that they will not disclose their internal rules for determining such "service abuse".

Though there are other issues, such as their strict enforcement by ISPs who practice gross oversubscription, I think their means of enforcement is the main complaint against them.

I'm with you, Racerbob See Profile, When I first signed up with Cox when it was @Home our speeds rivaled OOL at the time. I routinely saw downloads at over 7mbps and uploads at around 2mbps - for $39.95/month.

@home went bankrupt, but NOT because of delivered speeds - other problems caused their demise. Later Cox dropped us to 3000/256 but didn't reduce rates. Now they've kicked us back up to 4000/512 and act like we should really be greatful, while offering higher speed packages for more bucks. While I generally like my connection and service, this is a real sore spot with me - I'm paying lots more for less than half of what I started with as far as speed goes.

Is my idea Comunist yes, Am I communist there is no way in hell, I just feel some things should be up to the government, not a companies interest in profits, If it weren't for the Government Some of use might not have phones or power, And The Intersate highway system. The point is, broadband is a service, a cruecial service. The future of America is in broadband and fast telecomunications, Im sure eventually polititions will side with the consumer not the big company, The fact of the matter is this, In some states They're trying to stop communities from financing their own Broadband network, "The monopoly Bells", Argument agaisnt this is its unfair bussiness, yet they dont provide access to these communities. Well just pointing out a fact. My point is this every american deserves the right to have Basic affordable high speed internet. And the arguement that somone should just basically move to the suburbs or a city and sacrifrice actually living in a halfway decent community. I just don't like cities or subburbs, Because I actually like owning over 1 acre of land and not living in a house that looks just like my neighbors, And it alot quieter out here.
