| Cable Modem Question
In another thread, someones questions led me to wonder...
I am still using an RCA DCM105 cable modem given to me by @Home, before Insight came along.

Would I benefit by getting a new cable modem? It looks like the only difference between this old modem and some of the modern ones is that it only is DOCSIS 1.0, just from a quick scan of the specs of a few.
Would I notice any speed differences or anything to justify upgrading? |

| reply to Kurse If you aren't experiencing any problems and your speeds are right around where they're supposed to be, there isn't much reason to replace your modem at this time. I only bought my Motorola because the 3Com I bought from @Home years ago stopped working. -- Team Helix |

| reply to Kurse My vote would be stick with what you have for now. Unless you are having problems that can be pinpointed to the modem. It wouldn't hurt anything to upgrade to the SB5100. But there is no use spending the money. Unless you know your experiencing a problem that is caused by your current modem.
That said I upgraded my old 3Com when Insight stated they were upgrading to the newer DOCSIS standard. My old modem would still work just fine I'm sure. But I wanted the newer technology. -- Test Your Security Cable DiagnosticsIggyz Blog ZoneAlarm Help |

I too have the same modem. I do get close to advertised speeds, so I am in no hurry to switch.
The only drawback I see or at least here in Decatur, I don't think the modem has a internal web page to look at tech operating data. |
