TEdata price list screen shot after ICT cairo Feb. 2008 [unlimited bandwidth plans]

LinkDotNet -another Class-A local ISP- price list screen shot also after ICT cairo [unlimited bandwidth plans]
Hello,
I had recently contacted NTRA for an inquiry regarding my ISP price list.
All feedbacks would be appreciated.

said by Myself to NTRA head :

Dear Ma'am,

This is "****** *****"; one of the loyal ADSL customers of Nile online-NOL, a class-A local ISP

Regarding phone conversation early this mourning with Miss Sahar, Here is a complete illustration about the mentioned issue with NOL unlimited bandwidth ADSL services:
-Till August 2007, NOL had an international dedicated bandwidth pipeline(s) coming directly from Flag telecom

-Starting from mid September 2007, there had been a downtime for a couple of days followed by a change in the routing to get TEdata bandwidth pipe involved in the entry point to Egypt distributing to all NOL ADSL -and even leased line- users.

-During ICT Cairo on Feb. 24th 2008, TEdata had deducted its *unlimited bandwidth* service fees to a new -lower- values for all its ADSL customers
»www.tedata.net/new/tedata_egypt/···SecId=62

-During March 2008, There has been a successful fully acquisition of NOL by Etisalat Misr and later on, NOL has got a dedicated international bandwidth pipeline from Flag telecom for their leased line customers *only*!

-NOL ADSL price list is only available at »www.adsl-egypt.com/services_prices.php -but it was not updated -on web- since July 2007!!!-
Current price list: -updated-
256Kbps = EGP 95/month
512Kbps = EGP 165/month
1024Kbps = EGP 290/month
2048Kbps = EGP 530/month

-From Feb. till this moment, NOL kept TEdata as a provider for its ADSL bandwidth, Yet had not deduct a penny from its service fees
ie: NOL is re-selling TEData services with an extra 19-40% fees
Example:: TEdata users having 2Mbps with an unlimited bandwidth plan, pay EGP 380/month
While, I'm a NOL user having the same 2Mbps coming from the *same* source/provider, but i pay EGP 530/month
This is an Extra EGP 150 per month = Excess 1800EGP yearly which is *TOO* much in addition to be completely unfair and opposes customer protection/telecom regulation.

Meanwhile,
I have carefully double checked CPA laws »www.cpa.gov.eg/legislations_rules.htm and i would suggest that NOL behaviour is illegal and violates Telecom regulation rules in 2 specifc points:

* Re-selling a service *must* be in a corresponding price similar to -or less than- the main provider price list, but not with any extra fees
* Any ISP re-sells services from another local ISP should be considered class-B or C ISP -but NOT Class-A-

And my inquiry is,

1. Does TRA rules allow a class-A ISP -like NOL- to have the right to re-sell services from another local class-A ISP competitor -like TEdata-?
2. Should NOL go down to class-B ISP being re-selling TEdata services and deprived from dedicated international bandwidth -at least for their ADSL users-?
3. Does TRA have the authority enforcing NOL to update their unfair price list to be exact as their provider TEdata price list?
4. Should i call NOL for a refund for the extra fees during period started from TEdata new prices on Feb. 2008 till now -in a form of balance credit-?

Feel free to contact me seeking any further information, Highly appreciating your time.

Kindly advise.

a week ago I did a trace from Hurghada through NOL and I saw the same result, they are using TE-Data for international BW! I mean they can buy capacity, it happens all the time but not completely rely on another competitor!

I reported that action to NTRA and here is their response directly from call-center head

Dear Sir,
In response to your inquiries below, please be informed of the following,
1. The ADSL service with speed 256 KB is the only price regulated service. This means that NTRA can only control the prices of this speed, whereas higher speeds' pricing are left to market dynamics.
2. Regarding the NOL line case of reselling the ADSL service, the actual case is not that of service reselling. The case is that NOL faced issues with the international bandwidth provider that resulted in international bandwidth disruption for NOL. At the time T.E. Data had some free international bandwidth, and so NOL decided to rent that bandwidth from T.E. Data. NOL's action was out of its concern for its consumers who should be transparent to any dispute between NOL and its international bandwidth provider. The aim of the action was to continue offering the consumers uninterrupted ADSL service. Because the international bandwidth that NOL was using belongs initially to T.E. Data, your Traceroute showed the IP addresses assigned to T.E. Data. This does not mean that NOL is reselling the ADSL service on behalf of T.E. Data.

Hope this answers your questions. In case you want those answers in a formal letter, please write them down in a letter addressed to

Nile online has a new price list starting from Aug. 1st 2008
It makes NOL BEST of the BEST ISP in egypt because they offer *unlimited* bandwidth for all plans, they don't have any limiting plans or limiting hardware aslan

Did you hear about it !!!

alright guys,.. back to the point,i am using TEData isp here and i gotta say they are quite good BUT lately they are just being noobs meaning that their support team doesnt seem to know what they are actually doing,the story is i have been using tedata for a long while now,but at the moment the quality of the internet is decreasing meaning that YES am getting full speed (upload and download) but the issue for me here is with (PING) or (latency) ping is basically the diffrence in time between which when u send the request to the server for the information or data and the time of recieving it,which is also could mean the speed of the internet itself,so for example if u requested a spicific website u would type the address and then hit enter,so what u r doing is telling the server that u want this site to show to u and the timming between the moment u hit enter and the time u receive this site is the PING,so it really really annoying when comes to online gaming specially for FPS games or first person shooter games like counter strike,left 4 dead,... and the games that requires as low ping as possible in order to get fun outta the game,a ping of 100 ms is considered to be high for ppl in UK and other countries that ppl have low ping on the servers,but 100 ms ping is not too bad,if u shot a guy in game he will die almost instantly,but its a huge issue when the ping is over 150MS,in that case u wont be able to play for 2 main reasons,1)coz most of the servers of any FPS games have a limit of 150 ms ping so they will simply kick u outta the server and tell u fix your ping,2)u wont be able to play as over 150ms LAG is generated and u wont be able (ppl who play FPS games would sure know what am exactly talking about) anyway,receantly TEdata for some reason is having these pings too high,i dunno the reason but am getting an average of 250+ ms here,... it used to be 100 ms which is cool but now its not cool at all,i contact the support team more the once b4 and they were able to resolve the ping problem,but now am asking then to fix it but the last conversation didnt go quite well,i even asked for more experienced engineers to talk to so that they would know wth am talking am about but the response i got is that they cant fix a "PING" issue,so now am just looking for the best ISP in egypt,actually I thought TEData is the best,but they r not showing me one bit of that by not helping me.

whatever

Hello everybody,
I've been a TeData client since 2005 and due to my permanent move between cities in Egypt, I have 3 TeData accounts in 3 different cities. And let me say that there are huge differences between the three accounts in terms of DSL installation, support and performance.

The best experience for me was in Cairo, where I got 100 KB downloads rate for my 1 Mbit DSL and that is fair enough although that should be around 120 KB. And I had that DSL line installed in less than 10 days as promised. My account was not a direct account with TeData but it was through a supplier named Arkan and they are really good and flexible.

My second account is in Alexandria and that is a direct account with TeData and the performance was ok but not as good as the DSL line in Cairo as the lag was a bit more when playing online games. And Tedata themselves are not that fixable like the suppliers.

My third and worst account is in Ismailia, and it's through the worst ever supplier, named Hallal or Helal. I had the DSL installed after 2 months and they kept on giving excuses which are really stupid, like for example they told me that the Telephone Station has no enough DSL lines.. I replied, so why are you accepting subscriptions if this is the case??
At last I knew why they are doing so from a friend who has knowledge about the situation and he told me that such suppliers take the money from the clients and invest them in banks for two months before they install the DSL!!!

Anyway, I had the DSL installed after a lot of struggling with them and after installation of my 2 Mbit DSL, my DSL performance is 600 Kbit only which really sucks.. I really don't understand how that can happen but seems that I have a new struggle with the Hallal suckers

Re: DSL in Egypt

Hello all, and happy Feast

My Adsl Isp is vodafone , got 1 MB sub. since 4 months now.
The first 3 months were just amazing, full speed 24/7 110kbps , amazing Pings about 150ms at max hop all the time,
But since 25-11-2008 i have a damn problem :/

every day from 3pm-4am i get 1/4-1/2 the speed , shitty ping i can't even think about playing world of warcraft :/ from 400-800ish ms i dunno wtf is wrong

but from 3am-2pm i get again full down speed and very nice pings

this's an E.X of what i'm having :
»img213.imageshack.us/img213/7557···7hp2.jpg
this trace route done between 8-12pm

»img139.imageshack.us/img139/1852···1ey2.jpg
same trace route but between 4-11am

Note : ( clock is wrong in my PC every time i un-plug my power-cable coz cmos don't got a battery ;P )

i've contacted them millions of time , somtimes they told me plz download links from yahoo games , plz check ur damn pc for viruses and trojans

( but i've never knew my line noise ratio , and not sure if ISPs in Egypt do use that thingy called noise-profile )

anyway, best 1 who replied to me told me that it's a common problem in egypt , it's about FLAG cable again and now they're using the external bandwidth and that's why i may experience Lag or crappy dsl in those crouded time ( 3pm-3am )

i really dunno what 2 do , what to tell them to fix this problem ,,,, and if there's any 1 who have similar issue plz tell me , Thanks for your time and ur help if any

Hi mate

I'm on a 4Mbps ADSL2+ line from TeData. I have the EXACT same issue you are describing from around end of November till now. TeData are clueless to what the problem is, and now are telling me to change the telephone line.

My take on the issue is one of the following

- There is actually an issue with the marine cable linking Egypt to France, and so during peak times the bandwidth and ping times are atrocious.

- ISPs are now bandwidth throttling.

I'm more inclined to the first option now, and hope it is solved quickly.

Try downloading a file from Egypt such as this
»www.tedata.net/new/MultiMedia/Zi···8498.zip

It should fill your full bandwidth immediately. Just goes to show that actually there is a problem in the FLAG cable.

well i think i have the same issue here with timing,apparently at the times when alot of ppl are using the internet something goes wrong,i dunno if its an overload on something,and if so i dunno whats the overload is on,but i finally managed to discuss this matter with tedata and an employee told me that it could be something with the DNS severs but he doesnt think so,but he does agree with me that at times of maximum usage of users to the internet,it can get very crapy,bad and slow,and vice versa,well i dunno how to fix the ping problem now it just gets stable at 350MS most of the time which is unacceptable ofcourse !,am away of most of the online games now.

Firstly thanks for your help mate but i wanna know when will this get fixed if you do know any info please help me out or you can tell me who to ask because the press didn't write anything at all about any cables problem.

best wishes

@tedata.net

My guess is as good as yours. Also, I believe TeData uses the Seabone cable, while Link uses the FLAG cable.

All in all, I've been having a very hard time with my ADSL lately, and have no idea how to solve it anymore.

Guess we'll just have to wait and hope for a speedy recovery

I'm happy I found this forum. Was looking for one for quite a long time.

In response to MSakr, I have the exact same issue. I have the Vodafone ADSL 2MB package. And around the end of November internet became really crappy. I also play World of Warcraft and the latency now is insane. Used to be 200-300, now its 800 minimum. Average is 1.2 - 1.6k

I also contacted vodafone when I was fed up (didn't want to contact them coz i knew they'll do nothing), and they told me the same thing after alot of arguing. International problem with flagtel and they're using backup links. And ofcourse no expected date when this will be over.

I've been searching all over the internet (thats when i came accross this forum) for any clues about this issue, but no luck. My friends on Link & TEData tell me that they have no problem with WoW which is very wierd.

Anyway if anyone finds any source to this problem about flagtel thanks to post it here.

Dear Msakr,
If the issue is the international link, NTRA has nothing to do, that's out of the ISP hands.

would someone who has a problem with TEData post a trace snapshot, I just want to know where the delay happens (since my line works perfectly as posted before). Just a minor issue, I used to peak at 56 KB, now about 53 (512 Kbps)
