they were probably upgrading or updating things in various centrals and there was a down time, a month ago i had like 50% packet loss websites would hang at half-page and wont load had to re-click to make them work but that was fixed 2 weeks later (tried various DNS and didnt make a different).

then the 21st i had AUTHENTICATION FAILURE and when i called they said there is a GLOBAL PROBLEM and would resolve in 2 hours .. took 4 hours instead then when i managed to LOG and take an IP speed was 30kb down/ 30 kb up steady, i knew it wasn't throttling because when i went to an egyptian site to try downloading something speed was 400kb/s (4mb) anything international was 30 so i disconnected and waited 3 more hours and when i logged in everything was fixed....tried disconnect/reconnect a few more times and no problem.

so TEDATA was doing something at the centrals in CAIRO...maybe upgrading to ADSL2+ adding support for the protocol and testing the 150GB limit etc.

no big deal.....AS LONG AS THEY DON'T LIE.

since i renewed my month this 20th of april i have installed DUMETER to monitor my quota, i set it up to 100GB per month, so far in 5 days i got 9GB.

Re: DSL in Egypt

Ok WTF is wrong with Nasr 2 central???? I've been trying to get dsl for 10 months....10 MONTHS!!!!! Everytime i call TEData or Link or anyone they say "We're sorry. There's a problem with the central and we're not accepting any new subscriptions right now". WTF!!!! Some1 please explain to me wtf is going on!! I'm sick of this dial up crap!!!

now what if your problem, you seem so aggressive for no reason that can be solved by an ISP, nasr 2 is completely utilized in terms of ports now, there is no foreseeable chance to upgrade the ports as it will require more space which is not going to be provided by TE anytime soon, that's not an ISP related kind of problem.

Ok how is that no reason again??? So i'm supposed to stick with dialup unless i go live somewhere else? What kinda bullshit is that?? Don't tell me there's 'no reason'. There's a huge freakin reason. I'm not saying it's an ISP problem. It's the central's problem. But does that make it any better for me??? NO!

perhaps you should read my sentence in full before you jump to the keyboard and start to rant, I specifically said "no reason that can be solved by an ISP" which you confirmed but failed to see in my post! probably because as i said, you're just being aggressive. I don't like flame wars, don't have time for this.

and since when it became you "right" to have a high speed internet connection?! just because you live in an area where your neighbors have it? well, you're mistaken, you could have a PairGain line, or some other non DSL supporting line.
just do not get me wrong here, it is nice to have broadband, but did they advertise it is the right of every citizen (who is able to pay) to have such service? your post certainly looks like someone deprived you of one of your basic rights!!!!

No i dont have a PairGain line. I checked. And it's my right when i have already paid the freakin money! I've paid for 3 months on 31st of jan and i've been waiting ever since to get the dsl. So it is my right. And btw my neighbours dont have it cuz they have the same problem.

And yes i'm being aggressive because apparently this is the only way this freakin country operates. You try to be nice and they walk all over you. Trust me when i say that outside egypt u get a much better treatment than this.

BLADEAD...

call NILE ONLINE, RAYA, EGYNET or NOOR, they may have free ports unlike TEDATA and LINK.

Nile Online and Noor are very good.

No matter what company you choose, it will over sell its service and will slow down all participants. Just the old Egyptian mentality seeking quick profit.
We tried to use DSL in Egypt for communications and VoIP but it is so slow and not not better than dialup.
The Canadian customer support reported that the Egyptian side has no IP address even.
So they must be working under another company's IP and over selling it
It is just SAD

Tedata changed almost all the routing from the SEABONE to FLAGTEL (return path, not the one from your computer to the net but the one from the internet to you)...

this has increased the pings slightly by 30ms for europe, USA is better though average was 250 now 210-220ms.

i can show you how so you can understand...

go here : »www.mclink.it/cgi-bin/trace.pl

you will see your ip, click it and you will see the RETURN PATH, means the route that goes from the internet to YOU, the last ip you see is the one that give you the final ping...

eg. if the last ip is 75ms then your ping will be 75-80, if the final ip is 150ms it will be 150-160ms. and so on.

this is a very good diagnostic to understand if the problem is your central or Tedata network....

example : say your return path is FLAGTEL, flagtel average in egypt is 75 to 90ms (the site i gave is in Italy - europe), so if you test your ip and see that the return path final ip is above 90ms say 120-150ms then it is TEDATA network problem, if the return path is 75 to 90ms then it is your central because the return path average is normal.

simple things that help.

how are you my friend ? i hope you are fine .
the 1st point you have mentioned which is routing changes is not right for me .
i still find it is seabone either up route or down one .

and i can see that the latency is within average or even improved .

ok, well i just went through nineteen (19) pages and still no real answer on when this shit will end I've had tedata now for about 8 months was fine first month then upgraded from 1mbit to 2mbit. took 6 weeks to upgrade they still charged me that month i didn't have 2 mbit... thieves! so i refused to pay them the up graded amount till i got the service. they canceled me in two hours.. two hours.. i made some calls and got it sorted out. got service back, 256k ahhh haaaa, called them to tell them they turned it off for three days
finally got it to 2mbits worked great had d/l speed of about 250-270 kps for three whole days! dropped to about 25kps since then called tech support, 1000 times wrote nasty emails, still not budged, they are liers big time. I called them once they said "oh great I'm glad you called it will be fixed tomorrow thank you for calling." lies
called again "oh you need a service call, its your line
150 LE later and new telephone line and also new adsl splitter
no change! big surprise so as far as tedata goes they suck! i am moving, thank god, thank god, thank god... back to America where you get what you pay for, and if you don't you sue the bastards.. by the way i will have a petition going in maadi "in the cyber cafe next to the maadi sakanat metro station, next to lucilles burgers" for signing i need at least 5000 signatures to make a court case against them which i plan for July or August even if they only fix the 5000 signatures lines it would help... I'll only be here until Christmas 2008 so need others to join in this with me to keep it going because if you live in Egypt you know how shit gets done here "slow" if at all .. adsl sucks anyway cable rules. wish i had swarez's money I'd cripple tedata and link and start my own cheap internet service...That functioned. the problem really is there needs to be another phone carrier in Cairo to make competition like the mobile phones...period

TeNol

@tedata.net

i had the same, when i changed from 2mb to 4mb the 19th, the 22nd speed was 25kb/s for 4-5 hours and it switched to 400kb/s steady.

the new ADSL2+ being introduced in Egypt probably required network upgrades and this is why speed had to drop to 25 or lower than normal, its not in EVERY central maybe MAADI had the problem today then fixed and ZAMALEK tomorrow has the problem.....you know upgrades never go smooth.

is your speed fine now?

and plz stop bashing the dsl vs cable, dsl is better it may be limited by distance but it isn't SHARED like Cable where everyone is eating each other bandwidth, Adsl got a Contention ratio thats true but it almost NEVER kicks in unless every single user is downloading at max speed.

i'd rather have ADSL, i have lived 3 years in USA and 2 years in Italy and i've been happy with ADSL anyway, Cable may be cheaper and probably easier to get wherever you are but if everyone in the neighbourhood logs the bandwidth will suffer unlike ADSL.

so get your facts straight and don't expect people to be n00bs.

first I'm not bashing adsl I'm bashing tedata. period. they are liers and a bad company to do business with... second I've had cable, I've had adsl, I've had vdsl, and also sdsl, and in my """experience""" and ""opinion"" the facts are as follows. unless you are the one to two thousand people that are lucky enough to live close enough to a central station to actually get your full subscribed amount of bandwidth from the designated dslam router, than you might feel as I do. again, in my "experience" i have never felt a bog down or "lag" with any cabled net that was felt with every "DSL" conn. I've ever had. connections I've had you ask?. New York, Houston, Detroit,
Boston, Seattle, Colorado Spring, London, Brisbane, Paris, Sydney, Tokyo, and Cairo.. anyway its really a moot point as Cairo -only- offers adsl or dedicated adsl lines where i am located presently..and outrageously over priced i might add..any way this is an age old battle.. adsl is better no! cable is better, no! fiber optic, no satellite is coming of age.. my point is you should get what you pay for. if i pay for a 2meg connection, i should get 2meg, period.

yes still have problem!!! for eight straight months..
have measured distance to central ..granted this is a straight line measurement of 1650ft probably 2000 but still with in good range. in eight months they could build, wire, and run a whole new city in Cairo... the problem here is.. tedata is way over selling their bandwidth "greedy bastards" and all of the people who are using it are "Neighbor sharing" up to 10 house holds on one connection "thieves". so yes the adsl is constantly at peak D/L. and tedata keeps telling me "one week"
or "call back in two hours we'll have you fixed" "Liars"
so my real deal is this...---> GREEDY, THIEVING, LIARS..
