| reply to speed_lover Having the same speed problem with Menanet, my current Latency (Ping) is as high as 15000 ms, which is simply ridiculous. My assumed bandwidth of 1024/384 ended up in 44/57 actual speed. Still cant find someone recommending an ISP, so i'm assuming that the problem is Country-wide, accordingly it has to be related to the main line(s) (backbones), or to TelecomEgypt. I can't believe that all these big names are willingly sacrificing their reputation for an extra dollar!! |

@196.204.x.x | reply to speed_lover Has anybody had any problems with Soficom? I was thinking of subscribing to them but wondered if they were okay.
Nile online looks professional but I haven't had a reply to my email - do they only deal with businesses? |

| reply to speed_lover Sadly, Egypt is rife with ignorance and dishonesty. People will simply lie rather than admit that they don't know and don't care. Almost everything is like this here. It's not like this elsewhere in the Arab world. The mother of civilization is a lazy bi*ch. Anyway, just wanted to report that I use LinkDotNet and am similarly getting ripped off. I subscribed to a 512 line but it was never that. Consistently I was getting speeds around the same as a 56k modem. I even tested it against simply dialing up. I forwarded speed results to the company and got the same BS others have gotten about the problems being sorted out next week, "within days," etc. etc. What is so outrageous is how expensive DSL is in Egypt compared to elsewhere. I pay one third more than a friend in the UK and he gets three times the speeds I get. This is simply Egypt: it's rip off place, rife with corruption and a complete lack of business ethics or efficiency.
One interesting thing to note. LinkDotNet offered to double my connection speed for the next three months because I told them I was going to look elsewhere. Strangely, I'm allocated Up/Down (Kbit/sec) 736 / 3584, but I get only 512Kbps download and 126Kbps upload on online speed tests, which is what I might otherwise expect from my original 128 / 512 allocation. I don't know if there is some mistake here, on my part or theirs, and I didn't really test the connection much yet (it doesn't appear any faster and has been hanging a lot recently), but if at the end of the three months they call to say my connection is reverting to the sh*t I had before I will tell them where to get off.
Bottom line, shared connection or not, subscribers should more or less get average speeds around those THEY PAY FOR. Egyptian companies would go bust in the West because consumers have rights there. Here, we just get fleeced. |

| reply to speed_lover Can i ask you guys a favour and i beg anybody to answer me...
I am on LINKDOTNET 512/128 , and i asked them to cancel my subscription after just 1 month of use (i was getting average 15kb/s download instead of 50kb/s).
What i wanna know is this, they told me it takes from 7 to 12 days to cancel it.....
to join another ADSL company (NOOR, TEDATA) or something, i need a CANCELLATION NUMBER , right?
How or where do i get that and is there any problem if i ask for it?
THANKS A LOT and please reply. |

| the number of phone 3311808 then press 3 just tell them there is a problem they will say you have anti-virus call them by telephone 100 time and you will get the best speed don't change linkdotnet if you play with someone on internet with the same ISP you will get ping less than 100ms also note that in ramadan the ping may be 100ms to belgerium and france and london (nearly countries)
my advice : don't cancel travel to other country as other members said |

| reply to speed_lover link dot net will regret it when their reputation gets screwed soon and so will do all isps in egypt they are bunch of theives they steal your money.
they can earn more money if they upgrade their servers & thier international bandwidth periodically because if they do so .. they will keep their subscripers and then so many users will subscripe with them for long time not only for 1 month.

I'am considering this seriously right now, i just don't get it, why the hell they don't upgrade their servers!! the people in most parts of the world have speeds from 1Mbps ~ 24Mbps with less price than our shitty, unstable, full of problems 256/64 Kbps speed, well, Screw those bunch of thieves !!! |

| Ok guys, that's really annoying. They charge more than the normal pricing in other countries, although they do not care to upgrade their technology or give us the allocated speed. It is a real problem, but what can we do about it?
I do not know if it is available but if there is something that you can buy "dedicated bandwidth" for yourself only with partnership with another company, go for it. But if that's available, I think it will be pretty expensive for us.
The DSL technologies failed in Egypt, so that's not because it is a bad technology, its our company minds.
regarding my own experience with ADSL providers, I've been with TEData (256/64) and to be honest. The browsing speed is much like ISDN 128 only. And the download goes down and up all time while downloading from 9-10 to 30. but its not static on specified value.
I didn't try Soficom or Raya yet. but I am considering a new service G.SHDSL does anybody know what's it? It's offered by Raya, maybe its worth the try. I believe its around 2.3mbps and they say its the new generation DSL technology.
I heard good things about Soficom, my friends is using it for his cyber cafes.
Now, please if you know something about Raya G.SHDSL service, please reply, and it does require a normal phone line or not (I have a wireless phone line atm)
Can anyone help me with answers?
Back to ADSL - It's poor in most ISPs. Its expensive also. All friends from around the globe has speeds 1mb up to 155mbps for good pricing.
Please stay away from TEDATA, (poor technicals, slow response, shutdown without notice and more), LinkDOTnet, Menanet..for others, give a try. especially raya and telecom. |

| reply to speed_lover i told LinkDotNet to cancel my subscription the 30th of november, i went to their mohandessen branch..
they called me many times and assured me the cancellation is on the way...
today is 32 days since i order to cancel and nothing yet! still connected, downloading a lot and strangely @ FULL SPEED!
i sent them 2 emails today telling if they don't cancel immediatly i'll take the contract and call my lawyer and the police, and also i'll tell the media about it.
I wanna subscribe to TEDATA, not a single person i know have a problem with it, they all get an average of 45kb/s with 512kb/128k all the time.
i trust a company owned by TELECOM, at least more chance they upgrade because they are directly on TELECOM EGYPT the phone line. |

| hameda i think you should go to ur lawyer and call the police and tell the media cause link.net is the worst isp in egypt cause they spend too much money on their marketing and they dont even think to upgrade thier bandwidth and they struggle with anyone want to leave thier company so its bad and honestly i have been subscribed to TEDATA since jan 2005 till now and i swear i was NEVER disconnected and never they shutdown thier servers and they give me 54k dl rate 24h a day if u are using download accelerator but about the ping its 200-400 during the day and late night its 200 and stable i really reccomend TEDATA to anyone. (Link.net= SuckS!!) |

| Ok, I've tried most ISPs; Raya, Link.net, Egynet, and now TEData.
Raya: Average customer Support Good performance (256/64 -> 27/6) Average pings (EU-> 190, US-> 210) a little downtime
Egynet: The shittiest customer support Good performance (512/12 -> 55/12) Good pings (EU-> 170, US -> 190) alot of downtime
Link.net: Obsolete customer support Crap performance (1024/256 -> 50/7) The worst pings (EU-> 400+, US-> 390) a little downtime
Now I just subscribed to TEdata and hoping for the best. From what I hear from alot of friends is that they're better than all the rest when it comes to performance and pings...not sure bout the downtime and customer support yet....
Hope this helps. |

| reply to speed_lover people i am about to subscripe a ADSL with some provider in egypt yet i haven't desided ..
TE Data seems to be best of all but i need to make sure as i dont have the luxary to cancel my subscription with an ISP and wait for a month to reactivate the line so its more like a one time shot so i want it to hit.
i am thinking of a 256/64 deal due to lake of resources but i must maintain a 30+ KB/S D/L speed concurrent with no less that 15 Kb/s U/L speed.
would the 256/64 do the trick or i should go for the 512/128 offer .. |
