Silencing the Critics: DirectRevenue

Hi All:

Last week I received two letters from the law firm representing DirectRevenue (aka AbetterInternet.com) regarding the listing of its MyPCTuneUp.com software removal tool on the Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware page ( »www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_ant···eup_note ). You can read DirectRevenue's letter of March 18 to me here:

You can read my response to DirectRevenue's attorney here:

This information is supplied to keep the anti-spyware community informed about the Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware page and SpywareWarrior.com.

Best,

Eric L. Howes

Great set of letters!

You seem to have chosen an interesting strategy - if she responds to your detailed letter, and engages you in a letter writing campaign, you are going to seriously run their legal bill.

Instead of MVM, me thinks Eric should just have the title of "Superman."

Great job as always! Thanks for sharing.:)

Not a bad idea actually. The more verbose the better!

Way to go Eric!

Very well said Eric. Lets hope she tells her client that this is a hopeless battle for them.

Actually, the lawyer is not the bad guy: she doesn't really care much about spyware one way or the other.

It's the lawyer's client that is orchestrating all of this, and to whom the scorn should be directed.

Yes, but that is also a problem. Most lawyers have computers. You would think that the lawyers have had there own personal problems with spyware.

Also if you notice the pic in the pdf. That computer also looks like it has spyware installed too. Just notice the icons in the toolbar! I can see some kind of date/time manager installed.

Stupid question...is there a "legal defense fund" for spyware/adware cases like this (similar to the Linux/SCO one)?

Very nice, Eric. It looks like legal threat letters are the latest method being used for spyware vendors to "legitimize" themselves. (Where "legitimize" really means silence everyone who says that their application is bad in any way.)

Eric,
Given your work and visibility level I'm surprised that you haven't been targeted before now with a SLAPP suit.
Keep up the good work shining the light into these rat holes.
