I've been having problems for the last few days, usually getting single digit ul/dl rates. Using BitTornado, I dropped my "max peer connections" to 60 and jumped up to 40-60 kB/s just like it used to.
I'm not sure why that makes a difference now, but it does.
(PS - Iggy needs to abandon D'Arcy's Pint and go somewhere in town that serves 'real' horseshoes!! ) |

| reply to dinzy I've found that if I limit my maximum number of connections at 75 or below my connection stays alive, but if I go above that my connection keeps dying. This was not the case until just the last month or two. Before then I had no such problems. I am located in lexington, KY, btw. |

| reply to dinzy Cogeco is also experimenting with Sandvine in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. I cannot download at more than 15k/s, and I can not upload at more than 5k/sec. I run a callcentre that does end user support for 5 different ISPs. I called Cogeco support, they said to e-mail, I e-mailed them, they said to call, so I am moving out of there area into Roger's.

| reply to RMCii I think using someone elses connection is a bit shady too.
I just wish that insight would be up fornt and honest with its customers about how much they are restricting their internet connection. I also didn't like how they snuck this in during spring break. |

| reply to RMCii While I'm not saying that this in fact may not be true. I find an anonymous posting somewhat suspect. Like I stated here »Re: As of May 3 I think bittorrent is blocked
If SBC is going to try and drum up business in the forum. It might be wise for them to offer DSL to all parts of areas they serve. It would also be wise for them to maybe consider "naked" DSL at a competitive price. Both of these things are something that we won't be seeing SBC doing any time soon. -- Test Your Security Cable Diagnostics Iggyz Blog ZoneAlarm Help |

| reply to jared5494 InsightBB is clearly blocking traffic when you're only seeding. I switched to my wireless card and jumped on somebody's ameritech DSL and all of my torrents began successfully seeding. Then I switched back and refreshed trackers, nothing would fully connect.
InsightBB is being shady. |

1 edit | reply to OverBurn I'm not sure what the issue is. I can't seem to get any decent speed on either of my downloads. Maybe it's my client or a setting has gotten dorked up. I'm thinking of trying to find a new client. But last time I had a look at other software. Nothing really gave me the options and features of my current software. But that software is Java based and kills my machine in resources.
Update - updated a setting in my router ( I'd forgotten I needed to change this ) - updated my client settings a bit. And now speeds are better. But not 100% brilliant just yet. -- Test Your Security Cable Diagnostics Iggyz Blog ZoneAlarm Help |

| reply to IGGY I decided to DL the free Stars Wars DVD's to see how my DL's compared to others on Insight. I've never had many problems with BT (ABC BT Client) some torrents are real fast (300-400kB/s) some are slow (15-30kB/s). I also never use the default ports, I open the ones I use in my router and use zone alarm on the PC giving BT full server privileges.
So far I'm getting about 98-108kB/s on DVD1 and about 35-43kB/s on DVD2. DVD1 reports that it has 450+ seeders and DVD2 reports it has around 250. Seems the DL should be much faster. |

2 edits | reply to compugeek Odd the link I clicked for the movie didn't seem to offer that when I was looking this AM. It just had the small Quicktime downloads. Thanks for the link. The torrent files seem to be linked here »www.lysator.liu.se/%7ezap/revelations/
"so almost 3 days isn't terrible for retrieving it I guess. I had just hoped for better speeds."
Actually that is horrible time. Well depending on who is hosting and serving the file. Like I said above I'll probably have this Star Wars file before the Pope funeral file is even done. But if the file is being hosted on a good server with good seeds. And there is no ISP interference. You should be able to get the file in a half a day or less.
Looks like I may have misspoke. This Star Wars file is coming in way slow so far. Even though it looks as if tons of people are serving it up. |

| reply to IGGY Yes it is free and completely legit. Check the panicstruckpro website for the torrent link. My download seemed to speed up at the end. 3.5GB is alot to grab off a torrent, so almost 3 days isn't terrible for retrieving it I guess. I had just hoped for better speeds. I hope to get a chance to watch it tonight. |

1 edit | reply to bencjedi I'm still getting mixed results. So I'm not 100% willing to blame Insight for this ( at least in my area ). I did get about 80 down on one torrent this morning. I'm trying to get the Pope's funeral right now though and getting horrid speeds. At this rate it will be a few days before I get the file. If Insight would make it easy for me to retrieve stuff off of their DVR unit. I wouldn't even have to be downloading this. But it's a piece of history I wanted to archive. To bad I couldn't get the CSpan version of off the DVR easily. No laptop to hook up to the DVR to get the content off of it.

| reply to jared5494 I've been on a torrent for the DVD image of Star Wars: Revelations (a free, legit production according to the Sunday's Lexington Herald Leader) »www.panicstruckpro.com/ revelations/
The fastest I have gotten on my InsightBB connection was maybe 48Kbps down. Granted I am throttling my upload at 5Kbps. Would throttling my upload limit the download speed? I have about 50% of the file after 2.5 days. Should I be downloading faster off torrents? I imagine TONS of people are downloading this on bittorrent (suppossed to be really good) |

| reply to jared5494 I have also been having problems with BT in the last couple of weeks. I can download stuff just fine, and seed while downloading. But as soon as my file is complete and those peers that I was connected too finish it won't find another peer, therefore no more seeding.
It really pisses me off that they are doing this, as it has been mentioned many times in this thread that there are many legitimate uses for bittorrent right now, and only more in the future. Hopefully if enough of us complain they will remove these silly restrictions. |

| reply to IGGY said by IGGY :"Well I wouldn't say really fast seeing as even when the wow BT client works it does not work well." I'm going to have disagree with that statement. Before Insight started goofing with things. I could get extremely awesome speeds using BitTorrent. As long as those that were sharing had decent speeds as well. I think I've posted captures of my speeds in previous threads ( in relation to BitTorrent ). Just wanted to clarify I wasn't referring to BT I was referring to WoW's crippled BT client which sucks for the most part unless you download the "hacked" client which enables alot more features and brings speeds up to par with normal BT clients -- Forum Posts:6500 |

| reply to jared5494 usually it seeds fine on popular torrents but if the SLR is higher than 1:10 it won't seed at all. Also I think it is localized to U-C. They figured they'd slip it in during break. Perhaps they are waiting to see what the response is from angry customers. |

1 edit | reply to jared5494 I have't had any problems lately with BT. I was downloading linspire 5.0 and had no problems with speed as I was getting 300-400k down and after I was done it seeded well and used all my upload.
