| reply to rizzy2003 Re: Intel pro/wireless 2200 BG Problems.
Thank yourself it is a DELL !!!
Yep, the Intel Pro has some issues they well, have not addressed yet.
We just decided to do one of those $1000 neat machine deal benchmark reviews. Went with the ACER Aspire, The DEll $999 special and a Gateway GZ.
Trick to realtime internet response was to go to a knownsite, then go to known redirect in that site that went to a cgi-bin app or a .asp that is known to cause bogdowns.
ACER? Intrl Pro 2000? Would just die on the vine, all the while holding 100% on wireless signal strength and a clear DSL line. No time out, some TTL remaining, and just say DONE at the bottom of IE without ever executing the page. Gave ACER tech support an A for trying, but they were all over the router/modem people even though the r/m people can claim with high reliability that they are fairly clean. After hours and hours of tech support, including changing just about everything in the Intel Pro config, ACER tech determined that HD must have hiccup, told us to reformat and reload. Sorry Charlie, in the box and returned as a DOA.
Second up was the Dell. Same sites, same load test, same initial results. DELL tech was pretty quick, went right to INtelPro config. Surprise to us, the config box was DIFFERENT that the ACER, and had blocks to increase the juice to the card on battery op, and also told us to slow it down to 5.5 max for a new test. (There was no way to go to 5.5 on the ACER, just not there) Flawless operation from that point even on the meanest bog down sites.
Third up was Gateway. We thought we had another ACER! Exactly the same performance as the ACER, and since we were smart, went to config. Uh-oh, block IS the same as ACER. Call to tech support, machine wound up in never never land by the time the next 2-1/2 hours were over (Isn't XP nice in that regard?), but also wound up running direct from IntelPro direct non-windows managed app.
So, there you have it, our conclusion is that there are comm/choke issues with the IP2200b/g, You get about a 2 second open shot at an IE or OE 'call', and then it goes never never land in many configs.
DELL, or whoever wrote the config box for the DELL, left the fix plug available to the end user.
So, as others have said, goose the power management for battery op, and then secondly, try slowing or choking to 5.5
Just my humble opinion for now................ |

| hey manadigi, so if you're trying to update the driver to a newer version, just go to start->control panel->system->hardware->device manager->right-click on your wireless card under network adapters and choose properties. then go to the drivers tab and hit update driver and choose install from a list or specific location. then hit the browse button and find wherever you put the new driver you downloaded. If you're like me and want to install an older driver version, you need to choose "don't search. i will choose the driver t o install. then hit "have disk" and choose the location of the driver you downloaded... If you're just trying to roll back the driver to the previous one that was installed (which may not be the stock winxp driver, it might just be an older version than what you have), then under the 'driver' tab previously mentioned, choose roll back driver. good luck |

| thanks jblack5, I did the update driver from the Device Manager(update) and works fine, now I have only 1 icon in my desktop right side bottom, when I installed direct from the file that I downloaded it's create a second icon like a green parking meter symbol and was kinda confusing because I had 2 icon for the same application. If I want to roll/back I can't because there is a window that said there is not earlier version and doesn't give me any other choice. Now the speed is more stable than before thanks for the help. |

| reply to bell_s I have a Toshiba laptop with the same ***ing intel pro 2200bg integrated wlan card. I also have linksys wrt54g and the problems started the same day i bought these devices.. at first before updating the Firmware and the intel drivers the connectin died after an hour of surfing, but after a couple of ling nights and bloody tears it works just fine if you´re only surfing on the net. but when i try to download files via Wlan from another computer the signal dies immediately. All the problems seem to be on the Intel 2200bg, linksys works just fine, trust me, i´ve run many tests.. Now i´m waiting for intel to publish a new driver for 2200bg. before that happens, we´ll just have to cope with that.. |

| I had also all the time the problem which was described in this tread.
Since that I have updated the driver and WLAN Software with version 9.0.2.0, everything is working perfectly. No connection drops and the signal is all the time as strong as it never has been before.

| reply to bell_s Intel has a new release 9.0.2.1 I have had lots of problems with their software in the past, but this seems to work well! Goto: »support.intel.com/support/wirele···0623.htm look for the 2200 drivers and choose the latest one. The default download site did not work, I had to choose the alternate site. Installed and is working! Good luck -- I guess we are going into IRAN (or Syria) next, but of course it is NOT because they have OIL. All the "elected" governments of the new mideast are to report to your new leaders - The Saudi Family. Support Cindy Sheehan and let's get out of there! |

1 edit | I'm using the newest drivers (9.0.2.1 package with the 9.0.2.31 driver), and the "show icon in notification area when connected" (in Network Connections -> Wireless connection properties) does not remain checked after a reboot. Since the ProSet icon doesn't show network activity, I like to have the additional icon that blinks whenever there is network activity.
Before I go nuts trying to figure this out, can someone also running the latest Intel drivers and ProSet utility enable the "show icon in notification area when connected" option and see if it remains enabled after rebooting the computer? |

Maybe someone can point you to a 3rd party util that shows network activity. Thanks for checking. It's good to know whether it's caused by the Intel software itself or something else on my system. I ended up just disabling the ProSet utility and using Window's Wireless Zero Config, which keeps the "show icon in notification area when connected" from getting unchecked. ProSet is a pretty nice utility otherwise. |

| This is nonsense , a comapany such as Intel cannot correct a problem with the 2200bg ..... ! They should do something about cause they are not taking any action or thinking about their customers |
