| [Cable] Half my available d/l speed
Tweak test »ttester.broadbandreports.com/twe···a=normal
Line Quality »www2.dslreports.com/speedresults···/1677677
I really thought my Insight Cable connection was capped at 2Mbs instead of the advertised 4Mbps, but now have decided it is something on my machine doing it, and I have no idea what it is. It is a fairly recent change. I did try the GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize registry entry as recommended, but no help. Anybody know what else might limit d/l speed?? I have XP with all updates, the latest free Zone Alarm and Norton's AV 2005. Best I know no spyware/adware. The machine run just fine otherwise.
To justify my thought, because I have a bootable partition on this machine with XP sp1 as supplied from Gateway and the drivers for my video and sound. There has been no windows updates or any protection software ever installed. I set this up just for these kinds of tests. I tried a d/l in this partition as well as my main one (Adobe Reader 7 setup file at »ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/r···full.exe), and did get a close to 4Mbps d/l. So it has to be something on my main partition. Any hints or ideas???
Thanks |

| You didn't answer all the questions, so: 1) Please run a speed test to »chi.speakeasy.net/ and supply the result URL. 2) Do you have a router? If so, make and model? 3) Which version of ZA are you using? If 5, uninstall it and rerun the tests. |

Router is a Network Everywhere (Linksys) wired 4 port Router.
But I have to be 99.9% sure it can't be that, the NIC or the cable modem or cabling, since I can boot to another partition on this machine, and I do get the speed as stated in my original message. That means everything as far as hardware is the same and undisturbed.
As fas as Zone Alarm ZoneAlarm version:5.5.062.011 TrueVector version:5.5.062.011 Driver version:5.5.062.011
So you said version 5. Do you consider that part of 5? Zonelab update says I have the latest version. |

| ZA v5 affects some folks with a DL slowdown. UNINSTALL it. Do not just shut it down as the True Vector service is still running.
Retest your speed. --------- If it is ZA v.5 that is the problem, we will give you a link to DL v4.5 which works OK. -- Ninety percent of the game is half mental. Yogi Berra |

| Just a update. This forum said Zone Alarm 5 may be the culprit, and it was. I uninstalled it, and now I can do a 4Mbps per second. A reinstall did make the d/l slow again. Not sure what to do, find another firewall or just live with it. I don't do heavy file d/l that much anyway. |

McSummation Mmmm, Zeebas Are Tastee. Premium,MVM join:2003-08-13 Round Rock, TX | If ZA 5 is causing problems for an individual, it must be completely uninstalled. It only does this on some machines and we have no idea why.
We have access to version 4.5, which does not exhibit the slowdown. |

| Thanks to all who tried to help. I downgraded to ZA 4.5.594, and all seems OK. I am back to 4 Mbps d/l as advertised by my cable co.
I know I recently went from version 4 something I think to 5.5. I did it at a time when there were other issues affecting speed per the Insight forum. I never dreamed it would be Zone Alarm |

This is not the first time we've seen ZA 5 cause speed problems. That's why we have a special web site all set up to help folks download ZA 4.5. |

Thank you for the help....:) |
