| Re: Go Comcast 6/768 service...cable bill is 72.82/mo. This includes basic cable (supposed to be REALLY basic, but they didn't install the filters...lazy asses...so i get 50-60 channels for $15 and some change )
Verizon DSL was costing me about $90-$100/mo for 3/768. (Phone service + 3 meg service + about $10 in taxes and fees.)
Newsgroups have never been an issue for me because i don't use em.
My cable connection has NEVER gone down (i'm talking...NEVER. Not even once.) and i've NEVER had slowdowns of any kind or troubles with the connection. Verizon DSL continually gave me problems. I got booted every 10 hours...just long enough to make the PPPoE client re-dial. My upstream is also FASTER on this connection then it was on the DSL (uploaded at 50-60k/sec on the DSL, upload at around 85-90k/sec on cable.)
Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT a cable fan. If the comcast CEO were in front of me right now, i'd castrate him, but verizon needs to wake up and realize that Comcast has the lead in most areas that they service.

| Re: Go Comcast I switched to Verizon DSL (3m/768k) from Comcast about a month or so ago, just after Comcast raised their speed to 4m/384k in this area. It's not 'just' the cost issue, it's not 'just' the bandwidth issue, it's a combination of issues. My Comcast bill was about $110+ a month for digital cable and internet, but I also switched to DirecTV and now they are costing me around $80 a month. (already have local & long distance through Verizon so that wasn't a factor)
I have had less problems with disconnects and ping outs with the DSL than I have with Comcast, and I get my 3m/768k consistently to most people/places with decent connections. I also used to get the abuse letters every 4-6 months so not getting those will be nice.
I am also waiting for FIOS, but DSL is fine until then. I live in an area that's supposed to be getting it soon.
