Re: Blah Blah Blah

Verizon share Its fiber? I don't think so, If They had to Cable would have to share theirs too.

Maybe Verizon will share their fiber because it's economically feasible, rather than because it's legislated?

The current legislation is pretty clear: they don't have to share. But I don't think it prevents them from sharing.

I agree, But profit is what They[Verizon] are after, So DSLExtreme would have to be more expensive to be viable over Fios I'd think.

Same goes for DSL, no? Maybe DSLExtreme will be able to offer me something Verizon doesn't.

So I could choose:

• Verizon, providing maximum Verizon profit, or
• Someone Verizon doesn't lease to, providing zero Verizon profit, or
• Someone Verizon leases to, providing some Verizon profit.

Maybe it could work?
For sure, it's interesting to think about.

And be only $30 or so dollars per month? That's what I pay with Verizon for 1.5M/384k DSL service right now.

I don't know what DSLExtreme's pricing is, or what their fiber price would be. But certainly they already have DSL customers, despite their ILEC's offering, no?

Right now Verizon offers me zip (except for a copper voice line). So if FiOS ever becomes available, it'll be a good thing. It'll be a fabulous thing if I can pick the vendor though. I've heard pretty horrible things about VZs support (though my experience hooking up my brother's DSL was smooth). Still, I'd be willing to pay a premium to another provider if they offer good support.

If other players jump into the ring, there might be folks who pick someone like Speakeasy because of their sharing policy.

I can think of tons of reasons someone might want an alternate provider, and be willing to pay more for the service.

If there is another vendor and You want to go with them then do so, Me when Fios comes here to Yermo or to Hesperia I'll stick with good ole Verizon. As to Verizons tech support, Some are not so good, some are good and some are real good and caring, It's just pot luck when one calls. So I'll stay with Verizon as I'm not well off quite yet, Although I will be soon enough and I won't have to do a thing to get that way(Whether I Like It or not, It will happen).

That's what's great about choices. My brother's use is very lite, and not very critical, so Verizon's $30 1.5/~somethingorother is perfect for him. I doubt he'd be interested in FiOS even if it were deployed to him because of the price (lowest offering is $40).

For me, it's all about reliability. As a full-time telecommuter, I don't suffer outages well. Spending time trying to convince tier1 that there is an outage is time I'd rather spend working.

My personal experience with Verizon has been good, so if I ever get FiOS, even if I have a choice, I'd probably go with Verizon initially. But what I really need is HO service (home office) - and I'll pay extra to avoid the initial dance with tier1 support.

As to reliability, Verizon has been good to Me, I have more problems with SCE during a thunderstorm than I do with Verizon and SCE is back on within a minute or two out here.

That's good to hear. Frankly, I'm hoping that whenever Verizon decides to bestow FiOS on me, I'll be able to sign up, install will go fairly smooth, and I'll never have to call support. It sure would be nice to have service for $40.

Same here, Except I think I'll be going for the max speed rate available as It won't cost Me that much then.

I guess I'll just have to spell It out slightly, In the next few Years a $200 bill from Verizon will not be a real problem for Me, Not with an income in the $5k to $10k range. It will be pocket change practically.

You said "I'm not well off quite yet, Although I will be soon enough....". No matter how well off one becomes, isn't it foolish to spend money unwisely?

I didn't really have a point, other than to be sure you were aware of how expensive FiOS can be. Good for you if you will be able to afford it!

Yeah, It's not like I want to be well off financially really(Not yet at least), But being in a will and being the only living blood relative to My aunt soon, That is life as I'd rather she sticks around for a while longer, My brother is in Her will too, But being He's dying I seriously doubt He will get anything, Unless She goes before He does, She has a pacemaker, Is 88 and can't walk or stand, My brother has Emphysema, Lung Cancer and can't walk or stand either and is living in a hospital bed in His ex-wifes front room and He's 61 now, No one thinks He'll see 62 though. So I'm running out of relatives and Yeah I don't like It.

Note: That's $5k to $10k per month or so, But this is a guess as I don't know the real details, Just that I'll be Well off for life, I think It may be setup as a Trust.

Let's look at this from another perspective...

Verizon being forced to share their fiber network. Think of how this would affect the television industry. 30/5 is more than enough to provide Video. With everyone able to provide a "Triple Play", I would imagine huge rate war.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Verizon FIOS support is totally separate from their DSL support.

Separate but equal?

I guess the question is moot for me anyway - I'll never be able to compare VOL support to FiOS support, since it's highly unlikely Verizon will ever deploy DSL to my home.
