| Question about standby on modem & WRT54G
Hey, I was just wondering why it took so long to obtain network settings after hitting standby on my Motorola surfboard modem?
Is this normal, takes about a minute, I know it's no big deal but I was just curious to see if was normal. Of course before I added the Linksys there was no wait at all after I hit standby on the modem. Shouldn't Linksys have all the info saved? and just be instant on, or does it have it's on lease time frame?
I'm thinking of just not using the standby button any more. |

| There's no reason to put your modem in Standby. The difference probably is your XP machine, when it was directly connected to the modem, detected the connection was now active. The Linksys might not be reacting to the now available connection as quickly.

| reply to NoProxy Only put your cable modem on standby mode if you are also putting your cordless phones on standby mode too (joke). As long as your router has a firewall, most people would suggest you just leave everything on. Standby mode doesn't turn the thing off you know, it just turns the pretty lights off and makes you think you're conserving energy, which isn't enough savings to worry about. |
