Re: This is why I canceled Vonage

Only went out for an 40 minutes. I don't mind it cause if I recived any calls it went to my cell phone. I've had a few problems with dropped calls but very random so it doesn't bother me /

But why even have VOIP at all if you have a cell phone? You get much better prices on "long distance" with a cell phone. To me, a landline or VOIP would be an unneeded expense.

LOL, yeah right. That's the whole reason I keep my vonage, internation calls are much cheaper on vonage that on any cell phone. Go check the vonage website on Internation rates and show me a Cell provider website with rates that can beat it.

You're right, you will get killed if you direct-dial an international call on a cell phone. However, I use phone cards to make international calls with my cell phone. Works like a charm, cheap as heck. If I don't like one card I can always use another from a different company.

I just don't think its worth paying $20-$40 extra per month just for the privilege of paying a few cents or less on international calls when I can just pay a few cents or less without the upfront cost of another line.

Re: This is why I canceled Vonage

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but Cell Phones have a finite air time that is "free". Also, having a cell phone for family use is a little impracticle. And, I'm not sure I want my kids to have a cell phone emitting RF in close proximity for hours a day. No flamming please, I know there is now scientific proof that CellPhone RF causes any problems, but it's not worth the chance for me. My vonage is pretty reliable. I do have a cell phone, but always use it as a backup. VoIP is getting better.

And all long distance plans are either limited in the same way or bill you by the minute. With a cell phone, you can literally spend thousands of minutes a month talking to people before you run out of minutes.

Again, you can run into the same problem with VOIP or landline. VOIP doesn't solve that problem for you. If you're really worried about your kids' phone usage, you can use prepaid phone cards to track exactly how much money they are costing you.

I can make up scientific evidence too. But seriously, how many people have died from RF radiation emitted by cell phones? The answer is still 0.

I did a quick check of the top cellular suppliers and none of them offered 24x7 unlimited US calling for anywhere near Vonage's $25. Always a finite amount of daytime minutes and unlimited nights and weekends.

Why go through that extra hassle? Any way, with Vonage, it's unlimited, so this is not an issue. I like the traditional features I get with Vonage that Cells do not have.

My typing error here, I intended to say NO scientific, not now scientific, sorry. Cellular is convenient, but I still think VoIP offers a better solution for now, and it has been 99.9% reliable for me. I can't say that about my cellular service.
