Well, i want YOUR service. I don't want the one where my CATV price went up $12 in 2 years, I want yours! Can you give it to me or should I start nagging Comcast?

| reply to Deathsadvoca And 600-768 upload surpasses it. Not to mention quite a few DSL providers permit serving, offer static IP options and the vast majority are true unlimited use. As I see it, there is little point in speed if they give you monthly DL limits, especially something pitifully low like Cox's 40GB limit. While fine for most subs, most subs are only surfing and reading email...in which case after 768kbps latency probably plays a bigger role than average throughput to which end in my personal experience as both a DSL sub and a current Comcast sub...average latency during all times of day is significantly better over my DSL connection than my Comcast one.
But to each his own. Most people I see defending Comcast do so 'cause they can't get DSL. Availablility isn't a negative. Bashing DSL based solely on availabitily is like saying Fiber sucks 'cause they can't get it. If given the choice in a head to head comparison like I have, my guess would be they choose DSL based on its typical TOS/AUP, options and price. -- Don't get it, demand it! | I can get DSL. But I do NOT want SBC as a phone company. I qualified for 384 down... NOT!
Comcast did the install for *FREE* and service has never dropped. NO early termination fees. No yearly contracts. No BS.
If DSL is working out for you, GREAT! Comcast is the best available to me and the price is still the same as it was when I got connected. Speed keeps going up though - 1.5mbps to 1.8mbps to 3mbps soon to be 4mbps WITH NO PRICE INCREASE!
I am paying the $10.00 extra(I have 4mbps now) and when the upgrade gets here... 6mbps.

| reply to burgermeister Everytime SBC works on a phone line, they break another. Last week SBC was working on someones phone line and broke my neighbors line. They fixed it and have now broken my second line that we use for our business. This has happened many times in the past. Everytime I see a SBC truck in my neighborhood I expect some new problems. |

Meanwhile SBC is already at 6Mb and has been there for quite a while of course without the monthly usage caps. Nice to see my Comcast service will finally catch up to DSL. Now if only they would drop the usenet and monthly useage limits, permit hosting and offer static IPs they may be a decent service. -- Don't get it, demand it! | reply to dadkins DO you have some special deal or something?
everyone has seen, heard, read about the price increases from just last year!
When I had attbi and they changed to comcast my bill with discount for antenna service went from about 45 to 60 a month, then suddenly my antenna service didn't count anymore and it jumped from 60 to 99 a month. We had service outages but most times they were usually at 3 to 5 AM. I was extreamly happy to be back in a DSL serviced area again.
Despite what I've just said they do have some advantages Just as DSL does. I wouldn't go out my way to numerate them though, Digital Cable however is another story YUCK (Yeah yeah IP TV is going to be a mess too I don't even care about it)
The funniest thing of this story is that employees/retirees have to pay more! I don't know if there is an option to drop their discount and go for the deal, The price isn't too far off of this and there is no contract so there are some pluses. |

| reply to burgermeister I've had VOIP for about 2 years now. Its great, my SBC bill was ~40 bucks before I dropped it. Now my phone bill is like $15.00 for the same features I had before. No backup and if there are outages, I've never been effected by them. Then again, I'm not a heavy home phone user. My phone calls are something like
person calling me: "hey are you home, I was thinking of coming by" me: "sure, I'll be here, come on over" |

Yeah, I agree with Jamilla, why bother with slow speeds? I have a T-3 to my house, and my friend is getting an OC3 installed this week. I'm not exactly sure how fast it is, but I bet it's at least two to three times faster than cable and like 200 times faster than dial-up! I don't understand why everyone doesn't have this yet?! |

2 edits | SBC has unlimited use 3000/512 for $30 and 6000/608 (at least through their resellers) for $50. Verizon, my ILEC for my DSLX service has offered 3000/768 up for the last 4 months. I've had my 768 up since late October. I was lucky to get 220up when I was on the 3Mb CCHSI tier and now on the speed tier I'm still lucky to get 350up and still no sign of the speed increases. -- Don't get it, demand it! 4 edits | Huh? What are you talking about. In order to get the 6000/608 plan through an SBC reseller like say DSL Extreme, you HAVE to be in SBC's service area. Just like my DSLx service. To get DSL I must go with the ILEC or the ILECs resellers and can only get those plans. I can't being in Verizon's service area get the SBC 6000/608 plan from DSLx. I have to choose those plans offered by Verizon whether it's 3000/768 or 7100/768 or whatever. Being in Verizon's area I can buy direct from Verizon, or through a reseller. Same for those in SBC's area. They can buy direct from SBC or buy from resellers.
Sorta like some Comcast and Time Warner markets. In some Comcast markets like I think Seattle you can get cable internet service delivered over Comcast lines from Comcast or Earthlink. The choice of content providers is even higher with Time Warner with Earthlink, RCN and RoadRunner being the content providers. Eventhough it's all basically the same service you may get different pricing and different perks. Same goes for DSL.
At the time I got 3000/768 I was actually with Verizon, but switched to DSLx 'cause Verizon didn't at the time direct sell 3000/768. But even with DSLx the lines were still Verizon, the phone service still Verizon, the CO still Verizon, everything Verizon, except the internet content provider. -- Don't get it, demand it! You're lucky. I had cancelled the CATV service when my CATV bill went up $17 over 18 months AND they removed programming I watched and put it on its own tier for which they wanted $5 on top of that. Then just 2 months after that I got a price increase letter saying that I have to pay an extra $14 a month because I wasn't a CATV subscriber making DBS not the great deal so I ended up getting blackmailed into going back to Comcrap. Most recently we lost our ATTBi news server access and now if you want to actually USE your usenet service you gotta get a 3rd party news server subscription. There's another $10-$25 a month depending on usage. -- Don't get it, demand it! The Anime Network www.theanimenetwork.com |

Whatever rate the line is synched at is the rate you get. Distance matters only as much as it affects what the max rate. If the line maxes at 1.6Mb/s and you're capped at 1.472 then you have nothing to worry about at all. |
