LOL!

$19.99 per month, *PLUS* SBC's crappy phone service, *PLUS* "un-fees", *PLUS* distance limitations dictate you will probably not get near the speed you should. PASS!

Beats the $45 Comcast some users in my area pay, plus crappy CATV service, plus franchise fees, plus monthly usage caps, plus monthly usenet caps, plus crappy upload speeds, plus constant price increases...

Grass is always greener.

Re: GREAT DEAL

Its definately worth having a land line with just local service for anything important. Tons of people don't get affected by any limitations either. I've had 6.0/608 for over a year now and its great!
The only thing that sucks is the fees, yes, but cable and other DSL providers all have the same stupid fees tacked ontop of the prices.
I've got quite a bit of relatives and friends in MI in various places, and this should easily be able to get a few more to finally switch from dialup. It really sucks for the few people I know in MI in Verizon territory. Verizon doesn't seem to offer any DSL at all in any of the areas they are the ILEC here.
And our cable company, Comcast, charges upwards of $60/month + fees and taxes for basic cable, and its another $60/month for laggy high-ping slow-upload internet access. I don't know anybody that can get Comcast who can't also get SBC. Its only the few people in Verizon territory that only have Comcast's monthly-price-hikes as an option.

Re: LOL!

I don't have SBC DSL, but I have to say: SBC been very, very good to me!

I've lived in the same house for 15 years and *never* had a problem with my phone/SBC.

Just sayin.

What price increases? My Comcast HSI has been the same for 3 years now.

My cable TV/HSI/Digital Phone service has NEVER been down.
Also, I have never seen these "caps" you speak of. YMMV.

I used to have Comcast, just for basic TV, for a outraguous $60/month after 3 price increases in only 1 year. The picture went out more than the Dish Networks TV I now enjoy for half the price.

We got hit with the sweet 30% "How dare I not want CATV" price increase. And we ALL got a price increase when Comcast dropped their price in a single market in violation of Federal Law »'Discounted' Competition We should've gotten the same price.

As for outtages you need only see the CC forum. If your service is reliable...yer lucky. »**Network Outage Posts ONLY please!!** Part 2

As for nastygrams, you need only see the CC forum. »/r0/download/4···/aup.jpg As for seeing what the caps amounts are...of course...Comcast refuses to disclose them while still telling some users they're using too much of their 24/7 service.

As for usenet caps... »online.comcast.net/giganews/

Should be 1.5/384 or 3.0/512 depending on the plan.

Looks like 384. Damn, looks like they also have 3.0/512 for 29.99/mo. Seems like a pretty good deal.

Arggg, I still can't get up the nerve to go with Voice over IP. It still spooks me.

How long have you been using it? Do you have a regular line as backup?

Why would anybody want such a slow connection as DSL anyways?

LOL! My CATV price has been $39.95 for quite some time now... HSI has *NOT* had a price increase.

My phone service is Comcast Digital(previously ATT Digital). SBC was regularly jacking their prices and constantly bad service(why do you think I dropped them?).

Exactly! I'm only 2.2 miles from the SBC CO and can't even get DSL. Not that I'd care to have a slow package like that, Comcast recently "biggie sized" me to 6000/768, a free upgrade I might add. Comcast HSI has spoiled me rotten!

Re: LOL!

Look through MY posts, see how many complaints about MY Comcast service there are!

Comcast has a FEW customers(7 million?), plus Comcast is having to deal with thrashed/old lines that they did NOT lay thmselves that have needed maintinence for years(ATT's old lines).

Again, I haven't recieved these price increases you speak of!

As always, YMMV.

Not VoIP, Comcast Digital Phone Service(formerly ATT Digital Phone Service). It has been bulletproof since I got it 8? 10? years ago.

Had it for years before HSI.

To save some coin. If an individual's use patterns rarely reap the benefit of higher caps of a competitor's service, why spend the additional cash for something that they don't use?

It really isn't that much different than multi-tier cable service. For example, Cox in San Diego offers Preferred and Premier service. If bandwidth were the only consideration, Cox could dispense with the Preferred tier since all of their customers would opt to pay more for the Premier tier. Since bandwidth is not the only consideration, Cox Premier offers more bandwidth for more cash.

Many cable companies are not willing to do sub-tiers, so it may be that SBC (in this case) is perfectly willing to offer less bandwidth for less cash.

Taking a look at quarterly subscriber adds for both cable and DSL over the past year, much of the growth appears to be from customers going from dial-up to either cable or DSL. From an economic perspective, it comes across as being more palatable to go from AOL dial-up (for example) to low-end DSL than to go to cable.

they are not slow, 3.0mbits rivals comcast speed curently. Also with dsl you dont get slowed down by many people being on the same node as you. With dsl you have a dedicated connection to the co.
