I got to the sales dept. I asked to be transferred to dsl retention. They asked why and i said dsl discontinue. After I gave them my phone number and name, they asked if I knew about the cancellation fee. I hanged up, I did not know what to do.
Just demand to speak with the DSL Retention Department. If they ask why, say, "Only the DSL Retention Department can rerate me at the lower price." That's what I did. The first tech was very nice. he was from the Billing Department. He transfered me over to DSL Retention very quickly.

Do you have the JustCall 60, 120 etc (with monthly charge) or just the JustCall (with no monthly charge) ?
I have no idea what "JustCall" is. SBC provides my local service (unlimited) for about $16.50 per month, all fees and taxes included. I use a third party (PioneerTelephone.com) for LD and 'local' toll calls.

For those of you who recently upgraded from 1.5M to 3.0M, how long before you saw the increased download speed? My upload speed went up almost immediately, from 320k before to 440k now, but there has been no change in download speed. I've been power-cycling my modem every day for the past 5 days.

I probably would have been scared and hung up too. I say go back and stand up to the Bully and say "Yes I do, now please transfer me to the DSL retention department so I can discuss this with them" or what the others say or whatever you comfortable with. In my opinion there is a difference between cancelling their service and rerating. Just make sure they don't bundle you with other services and for peace of mind you can say something like, 'just want to make sure - there's no cancellation fee because I'm not cancelling, just rerating (maintaining service but at a new rate), right?' or not as it seems appropriate. Good Luck.
Me, I got the 12 months for 26.95 thru BestBuy along with a $100 gift card (6 months now) so I'm kinda at that rate so waiting to see what all is going to come up in next 6 months. Thanks guys for sharing these helpful guides.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Last year I changed to DSL Pro package for $39.99 month & renewed a one year contract that is up April 8th.

Just called DSL Retention like you all said & with no problems at all I got the same DSL Pro package for $29.99 month with a renewed one year contract.

Tell this person you wanna rerate to 19.95 with no "all distance plan".
Brand new customer or existing customer ?
If you are a new customer, you can get 19.95 and no "all distance plan".
If you are the existing customer, you cannot get 19.95 because
you do not have/add any distance plan.
Is this true ?
800-579-7861 customer service agent said the same thing. Also
they transferred to the dsl order department, which said the
same thing.
I am the existing customer at SBC, instead of paying $26.99
for DSL Express, I do not need any distance plan, and I try
to get rerated to 19.95. They insisted that I have to
add the distance plan in order to get 19.95. Is this correct ? Why ?

jnlk26, when you call them, specifically ask for the DSL Retention Department. If they ask you why you want to be transfered, say that only they can help you rerate.

How about you try it step by step like these two have posted. I myself followed Boricua65 list & worked just fine.....

Call 1-877-722-3755
Say Yes if you are calling from home or Say No and punch in your dsl phone number
Say Billing
Say Change Service
Tell this live person to transfer you to DSL Retention
Tell this person you wanna rerate to 19.95 with no "all distance plan" They will need your name on bill and the 3 digit code.
They will start typing for about 5 minutes and then your done.
You can get through faster if instead of saying "Billing" you say "Order" then say "New Service" then say "Home". They pick up the phone instantly there. Then ask to be transferred to DSL Retention. If they ask why, just say "Discontinue Service." It's all about getting to the right department. Good luck.

I did lol. He can't get me on the new Pro price. I called DSL Retention a week ago and they said fine. Now, one day before the deadline, Toaster tells me the only order on my line is nothing I may have to call DSL Retention again tomorrow if nothing happens.

Toaster is trying though thats one good thing

I see that you posted in SBC Direct, cool.
My download speed increased on the scheduled day (March 14), before I got a reply through SBC Direct. I'm enjoying 2400/440 kbps now!

Perhaps I was overexcited and said "Express" the day of the order, as my order showed up as "up to 1536" only. I called in today again, and I'll be placed on the Pro package with a new due date of Mar 22nd.

My fault... my fault... Either way, DSL Retention was very quick and helpful! Less than 30 seconds of Hold at 8AM in the morning

Following the advice in this forum I called DSLR and was rerated to $19.95. My confirmation letter arrived yesterday and in it was language to the effect of, "the rate is valid as long you maintain all required All Distance components." Neither I nor the agent ever mentioned All Distance at any time during my call to rerate so this has my perplexed and a bit concerned. Anyone know the details on this?

Don't worry about it. It's the only form letter they have for that rate, and it was sent just to give you confirmation of the rate change.

Yes it does look again see where it talks about SBC Yahoo! DSL bundle rate.

The wording maybe a little different in yours....
