Re: Rumor: SBC lowering prices

I checked BestBuy again and they still show the 26.99 for Express.

I doubt BestBuy would match SBC's 19.99 offer. As it's been said in this thread that is a limited time price only through SBC portal.

Oh and I just got my confirmation email which says the modem kit will ship through UPS and will be here in 5-6 days. They gave me my activation date too so I think my order is done. Took 'em about 2 days to process it! Not bad.

Ahh, I see what they did. There's no more rebate promotion on the BB site for SBC-Yahoo DSL. When I checked they must have removed SBC from the offerings while they made that change. Now there's definitely a disadvantage to going with BB. Dell looks like they're still offering 3 free months if you sign up for SBC-Yahoo DSL with them but they've dropped their $75 rebate that went with the free months.

So there isn't a rebate on the bestbuy website anymore for the modem? Anyone know if this still available to get the modem free after rebate in store?

No, I was talking about an additional $75 rebate that BB was giving. All of the third party resellers give the modem rebate but some will give a portion of their kickback in addition to that.

For example, Dell is giving currently offering the free modem, three free months of service and a $50 rebate. A few weeks ago it was $75 instead of $50.

I have 1.5Mbps DSL at $26.95 and wanted to see if I could upgrade to 3.0 Mbps at $29.95. Retention said, 'no problem'. Also was advised that upgraders can get a $99.99 credit towards a new modem, either the $149.99 wireless 2Wire or the $99.95 standard model. I already have a wireless network, so I chose the latter; shipping cost is $12.95. BTW, I do not have SBC's LD package, but use an alternate LD provider. ETA of the speed increase is one week.

Just called demanding for DSL Retention, and I got it
1.5 @ 26.95 to be rerated at 3/512 @ 29.99, effective on the 15th of March, and renewed contract for one whole year.

Thanks jmorlan !

Do you have the JustCall 60, 120 etc (with monthly charge) or just the JustCall (with no monthly charge) ?

First find your 3 digit code on your telephone bill.
Call 1-877-722-3755
Say Yes if you are calling from home or Say No and punch in your dsl phone number
Say Billing
Say Change Service
Tell this live person to transfer you to DSL Retention
Tell this person you wanna rerate to 19.95 with no "all distance plan" They will need your name on bill and the 3 digit code.
They will start typing for about 5 minutes and then your done.

@131.241.x.x
just got re-rated at $20, although my contract expires next month so i really just got re-newed.

the csr from retention also mentioned offering higher speed access(3.5Mb at the minimum) in the next 6 months or so at very competitive prices.

Cool!! When I got re-rated, I was also placed on a new one-year contract starting March 17th.

You can get through faster if instead of saying "Billing" you say "Order" then say "New Service" then say "Home". They pick up the phone instantly there. Then ask to be transferred to DSL Retention. If they ask why, just say "Discontinue Service." It's all about getting to the right department. Good luck.

Went through Billing - Change Service - DSL Retention.
The whole process took 10 minutes (about half was hold time) and they gave me the lower price.

Thanks for the great info!

I didn't have that great info before when I called to rerate but I eventually got a person who was DSL Retention and got the 19.95 from that dept too.
Think I got the rerate same day I last posted. 3/05

I got to the sales dept. I asked to be transferred to dsl retention. They asked why and i said dsl discontinue. After I gave them my phone number and name, they asked if I knew about the cancellation fee. I hanged up, I did not know what to do.

You should have said "Please connect me to the DSL Retention Department; I need to speak with them about that." Sales was trying to make it difficult for you. Try again and good luck.
