[BroadVoice] After connected, cannot reach correct extension

After connected, cannot reach correct extension

Have been using both Packet8 and BroadVoice with Sipura SPA-3000, both are with current updated firmware, however, calling some phone number with extension often got to wrong extension or invalid extension by BroadVoice only, not Packet8 at all. It appears to me that calls once is connected by BroadVoice, it often cannot transmit touch tone frequency with accuracy. Is there any similar experience by other BroadVoice users?

Telephone number with extension regularly having problem to reach correctly are follow as examples:

1-310-394-0944 with any 3-digit extension number (0% successful rate)

1-310-642-1082 with any 2-digit extension number available via the directory (30% successful rate)

1-626-573-1000 with any 3-digit extension number (50% successful rate)

Furthermore, BroadVoice also have lower fax successful rate than Packet8.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: [BroadVoice] After connected, cannot reach cor

My experience has been quite the opposite: DTMF tones on Packet8 were often in error; DTMF tones on BroadVoice have always been accurate except for one day when there was a known problem.

BroadVoice uses the G.711 codec on all its proxies except CHI. Which one are you using? What do your callers say about the audio quality of your calls?

I don't have enough information to test extensions at the numbers you listed.

Yes. I have also been experiencing the same thing.

For whatever reason BV does not transmit touch tone signs very well. Some numbers I call it works others it doesn't. I supposed it just depends on how sensitive the system is on the other end.

Trying to use many call routing systems is a nightmare. Bank of America's doesn't work for me at all. I just keep hitting 0 or wait till it automatically transfers me to an operator.

My overall experience with BV has not been great. I'm checking out other providers.

While I am not sure which proxy server I am connected to, I am in Los Angeles so I don’t think I am connected to CHI. If you let me know how to check for proxy server setting, I will check it for sure.

My callers told me audio quality is good, may be even better than Packet8!

For 1-310-394-0944, just go for directory enter last name then you will hear all different names other than you entered.

It depends on which VOIP adapter you are using. If you are using a Sipura and you have administrative rights, click on Admin Login, click on Line 1 (if that's your BroadVoice line) and look at the contents of the proxy field.

I just tried the BofA number, and had no trouble navigating the automated system via touchtones.

With my original Sipura configuration, I had similar problems. For example, with "DTMF Tx Method" set to "InBand" I could use my AT&T Wireless voicemail system fine, but Broadvoice's own voicemail system wouldn't recognize the touchtones. If I set it to "Auto," Broadvoice worked fine but not AT&T. Finally, I found by setting it to "Auto" and both "DTMF Process INFO" and "DTMF Process AVT" to "NO" it works with all DTMF driven systems I've tried. These settings can be found in the Advanced Line configuration page.

I don't pretend to know the technical reasons why this worked...I just know that it worked for me.

I believe the original poster's problems are due to how he has his device set up, and not something on Broadvoice's end. Reprovision your device, and if necessary adjust the settings for dtmf tones.

Unfortunately, I cannot find these settings you mentioned via
http://<spa_ip_address>/advanced/
as you can see attached screen shots for every single configuration web page I have access to. I have no access to “Admin Login” due to password is required but I do not have the password.

Is this because I setup the SPA-3000 by using BroadVoice provided firmware as described in web page at
http://www.broadvoice.com/support_install_byod_sipura.html
? More specifically, via
http://<spa_ip_address>/admin/upgrade?
continue herein above URL below in one line:
http://config.broadvoice.com:8080/spa3k-2.0.8.bin

Should I download then install firmware 2.0.13g directly from Sipura Technology via
http://www.sipura.com/support/index.htm
? Then manually configure for BroadVoice?

Call BroadVoice Support. If you own your own equipment they'll give you the password.

You need the password to log in as Admin. Without it you won't be able to do what you want.

I have a Sipura 2000. I cannot find any of the settings you discussed.

The only thing I've been able to find are Regional settings of DTMF Playback Length and DTMF Playback Level. I've tried playing with both settings but to no avail.

They are there, I promise you! I'm also using an SPA-2000, with the latest firmware. When I get home tonight, I'll try to post more specifics: firmware revision, screenshots, etc.

BV's provisioning script set up my Sipura 2000 with firmware version 2.0.10e.

I upgraded to 2.0.13g. The settings you discussed earlier are now available.

I tried different settings. So far no luck.

No. I did it a different way...

I removed the Profile Rule under Provisioning.

Then I changed the Upgrade Rule from (!2.0.10(e))?»config.broadvoice.com:8080/spa2k-2.0.10e.bin to (!2.0.13(g))?»config.broadvoice.com:8080/spa2k-2.0.13g.bin.

Hit Submit All Changes. Device upgrades itself. Just watch the green light on the side. When it stops flashing it's done.

 Unfortunately, I tried
http://config.broadvoice.com:8080/spa3k-2.0.13g.bin
got HTTP 404 - File not found so I cannot do your way.

Is it possible to download then install firmware 2.0.13g directly from Sipura Technology via
http://www.sipura.com/support/index.htm
? Then manually configure for BroadVoice?

Yes, do exactly that. Download the latest firmware from sipura's website, then either turn on the provisioning for the device so that Broadvoice can configure it, or manually configure it.

I have the Sipura 2000. It appears that BV doesn't have the latest firmware for your device available.

You'll have to download it from Sipura's web site then manually upgrade.

It's easy. Just launch the .exe on a Windoze computer. Make sure you remove the Profile Rule or BV's config server will just reinstall the old firmware and erase all your setting changes.

After download then install firmware 2.0.13g directly from Sipura Technology via »www.sipura.com/support/index.htm Then utilize Voxilla Configuration Wizards found at »voxilla.com/index.html to configure for BroadVoice, then follow BLL See Profile's advise at »[BroadVoice] After connected, cannot reach correct extension then follow your advise at »[BroadVoice] After connected, cannot reach correct extension to adjust DTMF Playback Level: -1 and DTMF Playback Length: .5 and FXS Port Output Gain: -1 appears to me has fixed the issue even I should test further, please try it then report back in this thread.

I appreciate everyone's help!

Re: [BroadVoice] After connected, cannot reach correct extension

Glad you got it fixed. FYI, this is actually one area where Packet8 has many people beat... DTMF tones. Packet8 uses a compressed codec. This is why DTMF tones are better on Packet8. Because the codec is compressed, it will not properly carry a DTMF tone. They use a separate channel to encode a DTMF tone so that when the gateway on the other end that connects to the PSTN where you are calling "hears" this encoded signal, it recreates the DTMF tone and transmits it analog through copper to the receiving end. In other words, VoIP carriers that use uncompressed codecs simply carry the DTMF tone through the signal. If there is any jitter or network problems along the line, then the tone will be scrambled on the other end. Packet8 does not transmit the DTMF tone with the voice part of the call. Instead the DTA listens for a DTMF signal and then digitally sends it to the other end to be remotely recreated. That way network problems will almost never interfere with Packet8 DTMF tones.

It actually works too well. Sometimes if someone's voice sounds (to the DTA) like a DTMF tone, then it will send that tone out through the line. I've been on the phone before and certain women's voices are just the right frequency to cause the DTA to think it heard a DTMF tone and I will hear the tone in my ear just as if they had actually pressed a button, even though they never did.
