Hint in the Help pages for Special Applications:
"SIP: Allows devices and applications using VoIP (Voice over IP) to communicate across NAT. Some VoIP applications and devices have the ability to discover NAT devices and work around them. This ALG may interfere with the operation of such devices. If you are having trouble making VoIP calls, try turnig this ALG off." |

Just an FYI, I have tried this with the Linksys PAP2 and it does not work either. I am having the same issues as the original poster and have also tried all the port forwaring and DMZ with no luck. Quite frustrating to say the least. WTF is DLINK thinking???!?! |

I understood what you wrote, but in your post, you also said that there may also be some other adapters that the DGL-4300 would have problems with but weren't sure. That uncertainty was enough for me not to get the DGL-4300. Of course I could have had the same problem with my new router as well, but I got lucky I guess.
You definitely should keep the router between the modem and the adapter to get your money's worth. I think what I'd do instead of replace the D-Link is replace the adapter instead with a brand/model that D-Link used to test with so you know it should work. Adapters cost less than replacing the DGL-4300. Then I'd sell the adapter on Ebay to someone who can use it to defray your costs. |

The Dlink techs said they were aware that the DGL-4300 did not work with the Moto VT1005, not VOIP in general. |

I'd complain in an effort to try to get someone at the company who sells/supports the product to fix it, of course. I like the router, I'd like to be able to use it, but I can't because the Moto VT1005 does not work with it. I can't put the Moto in front of the router because that causes the VPN client I need to use to do my job to not work. Besides, what would be the point of getting the DGL-4300 in the first place if I was going to stick it behind the TA? I got the DGL-4300 to take advantage of its unique capabilities to improve throughput of VOIP and gaming traffic. That would not work if the TA was in front of it. In every post I have made on the subject I have specifically said that it does not work with the Moto VT1005. Other TA's may work, but the Moto box does not. Someone suggested to me offline that I should try to get Vonage to RMA the Moto and replace it with a LinkSys PAP2 (which they claim is known to work OK with the DGL-4300). I may just do that. In any event, the secondary purpose of my posts is to warn anyone else who may have the Moto box that they may have problems if they get this router. If I were looking to get this router and had the Moto box, I'd be happy that someone took the time to provide this information. It'd save me a lot of aggravation. |

I agree that if you spent the money that you should try to make the router work especially if D-Link says it is supposed to. I know that after upgrading my DI-624 to the Belkin, I noticed a marked (although this is subjective of course) improvement in call quality. Here is the thread I read on DGL-4300 not working and the poster said the D-Link techs said VOIP wouldn't work either: »[Info] DGL-4100/4300 does not work with VOIP (yet?) |

Personally firmware features are most important to me in a router, along with reliability. And DGL-4300 works great for most everyone I have read.
And personally I don't know why a person would keep a router in a pile if it isn't doing what you want? Just they have a reason to complain about it later? Instead of just getting your money back. It makes no sense. I would never buy a $170 router and leave it in a pile, which makes me suspicious of the claim. |

Can't you simply put the phone adapter out on the DMZ so it effectively bypasses the DGL-4300?
I read somewhere (maybe here or a review) that the DGL-4300 didn't play well with VOIP (despite what the dlink website says). this is an easy fix, well sorta, just bypass the router, like so:
MODEM>VONAGE>ROUTER>PC's
that should take care of it, although it will add a hop to your network, or you could figure out what ports vonage is using and forward to the IP of the device |

That was me, and I coouldn't get it to work, and Dlink techs were no help. Claimed it was because the Moto was operating at 10 megabits and it was somehow not able to talk thru the (autosensing) 10/100/1000 port. I did try unchecking the SIP ALG, to no avail.

I know nothing about VOIP. But read someone else had some trouble and turned off (unchecked) the SIP option in the Special Applications section, and that fixed his problem.
The help section gives a little explanation for turning it off if you have trouble with VOIP.
There was another person who has a "Vonage Motorola VT1005" who said he couldn't get it to work. |
