Fact is the back plane will never support as many users as cable or dsl can. The solutions I have seen for motels all come back to a single 100mbps ethernet port, sure hope they hadn't planned on doing DVOD ever 
I have seen that the CPE's are suppose to be able to hanble 7mbps, however that's only 14 bandwidth hogs and your pipe is maxed out. Kind of pathetic. I would rather take 802.11b fixed wireless with all its flaws over the way more expensive BPL. |

Have you no clue? You say BPL is faster than cable and DSL? Yea, right! Shannon is rolling in his grave! The BEST BPL can provide is about 4 Mbit (on a very good day, exceeding FCC limits I might add). Typical speeds are in the 256 kbps range. The reports of 200 MBit are in a lab with controlled noise. Cable, a SHIELDED medium, has much, much greater bandwidth capacity.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa
The system was deactivated by the carrier after a ham filed interference complaints. The carrier attempted to resolve the interference issues, but after 11 weeks or so, the interference was still unresolved. The FCC stepped in and the carrier voluntarily deactivated the system.
Penn Yan, New York
The system had open interference complaints, and the system integrator decided to discontinue the BPL trial and migrate to wireless.
Raleigh, North Carolina
The carrier announced deactivation of the system which they claim was a successful trial. The system had numerous interference complaints lodged, however, most of which were unresolved at the time of the announcement. It's arguable whether this shut down was due to interference, but the FCC never officially dismissed the interference complaints. |
