This trend will just continue.

Until cable companies can wire more homes, DSL is be the winner. It's been 10 years since Cox told me that I would be able to get cable in 1 year. It still isn't here.

I'm sure that cable is fine for all the poor families. But, anyone with any money at all will choose to go with a more reliable option like DSL.

Cable has more customers wired right now, in the US. Did you even read the article.

Wow, what an ignorant and arrogant statement. How is cable for poor people? Looking at the posts here, I would say DSL is for poor people since they have the $20-$30 price for the slow 1.5Mbps and less speeds. As for reliability, that's all a matter of local systems. Both cable providers by me have had a 99.9% uptime in the last 3 years(that has been the time I have compared them).

I have money, and it's going to my faster cable service, instead of funding SBC.

1.5Mbps is slow? Am I missing something?

I think you mean DSL. Cable has almost all houses wired while DSL has so many issues with there distance crap. I hope DSL fixes that issue fast.

I think they need to offer faster packages as well. If SBC could provide me with a 6Mbps/768Kbps package for $50 and reduced my 22,000ft distance I would switch in less then a second.

However they have A LOT of distance issues it isn't even funny. I am in Illinois which ranks about 5 state that is most populated and lived in the biggest City Illinois has (Chicago) and they have so many problems providing even their 3008/512Kbps package to me. Heck they couldn't even provide me with any package really.

Well at least in my area, dsl starts at $19.99- lower than most dial up big names. I pay $35 for 3.0/400 and if I wanted cable it would be around $60 a month from Insight for 2.5/375ish speeds (my neighbor next door has the insight broadband), so in my opinion, after he has had to use my computer several times a year because his cable went down, while in almost 3 years my dsl has never gone out, I'll stick with the cheaper, faster, more reliable internet connection at least while I live here.

Are those prices the SBC promos?

It all boils down to each area, as it has been said quite a few times.

Here I get 6.0/500 for $45($55 without tv service) from my cable company, the closest SBC package is 1.5-3.0/384-512 for $37 a month with one year contract, which isn't worth it, IMO. Plus, I am then forced to have phone service through them too, which is another $40 or so a month.
