Impressive! - That's a pretty rigorous certification.
Did you write the paper on malicious mobile code, perchance?

My practical was named kind of strangely:
"Jousting From Unicycles: Addressing Design Rather Than Adding Armor"

Sort of an artsy-fartsy name, but the concept was interesting (to me anyway). The SANS people liked it too; they said it was "refreshing" and "unique". It was quite horrible, actually, but it had a few good points that carried it evidently.

Anyway, I'm glad it's over. Oh, and if anyone tells you that GSEC is easier than CISSP, give me their address so I can go pummel them. Between the paper and the two exams, the GSEC is a far more serious credential in my book. Granted, it may not have been so stressful if I had studied at all (I didn't take the course or have access to the course material), but it's so much more fun the way I did it.

Congrats Daniel, its a great start. About your comments about the GSEC VS. CISSP... Put your money where your mouth is...Here is a link to a sample test for the CISSP, take 25 question test at the Pro level, post your results. Good Luck!

Daniel holds both the CISSP and GSEC certifications. The CISSP for almost a year and the GSEC for, well.. 24 hours.

Either way, he's certainly qualified to comment on the two.
If you found the CISSP difficult then so be it, but don't try and call him out, he's earned his credentials already and it wasn't from some yahoo on the internet.

EDIT: congrats Daniel

I didn't do well at all (52%), but I have never studied for, nor taken any classes targeting, this test. I am only 1/3 of the way through the GSEC course. So... I don't see that the CISSP is all that difficult given some study time. Just my $0.02.

BTW, GJ Daniel.

I wouldn't have been so quick to make the comparison to CISSP if I didn't already have it. I was scared of it too before I took it; it's nothing compared to doing a practical and two highly technical, 100 question exams - if you have them both and think otherwise, I'd be interested in talking to you.

I think the CISSP gets much more credit as a tough exam than it deserves. I think it's a good test, but it's not particularly difficult. Also consider the fact that you can write articles and read books to renew your CISSP every 3 years. For the GSEC, you either keep your skills sharp and pass an exam every 2 years, or you lose it. No test, no cert. I think that's more respectable as a serious credential than cramming for a few days and never having to revisit the stuff.

Edit: Added some clarification
