| Skypilot pricing Does anyone have a price quote from skypilot on there equipment. I ask for the demo package and got a $6999.00 price quote. I checked out the net and found prices much less. I e-mailed the sales guy and he said they decided to increase the price but few new about it. He said the same demo was $3,999.00 a week ago. Anyone else know about this or has anyone ordered a demo from them before. I will call them tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone else had any info. Thats almost double. Thanks | |

I've got to say I've had a hard time deciding wether or not to use the Skypilot. Takes for ever to talk to anyone.
If they did raise the price then I will not use it. Here's some things to look at.
1) out dated atheros 5002 chipset(5004 is much better)
2) out dated power pc platform (wrap boards out perform them)
3) everyone else is lowering prices.

Extender $1300
Connecter $400
Sure glad I did'nt order last week and get stuck with a system thats to expensive to extend.That same money will buy me a few 5.8 amps for my access points.

I was looking for a system for the future and it looks like a good system but after the price increase I will have to wait. I told the sales guy I cant compete with the local telephone company at those prices. I guess I will stick to 802.11 for a while longer it has worked well so far but would like the added distance and the mesh network idea of the skypilot system looks like it would work well for our area. Any other stable, reliable and not new companies have this type of system for sale that anyone knows about? I know the 802.16 is just coming into play but if it does what they say I would like to try it out. Thanks | |

| Re: anyone using 3054's as wds mesh network The only thing that comes close to Skypilot's price range is »www.qorvus.com/ ... their gear is also priced steeply ($1000 for a mini-itx?). However, you can build yours and add thier $100 OS ("qCode" -- LocustWorld hybrid) to run the mesh.
Haven't used it, but hear good reviews about it. | |

What is your experience with qCode so far? Hope it's not only a web-enhanced LocustWorld. Are there system improvements worth it and is there any talk about multi-radio/802.11a support? MeshDynamics speaks bad about single radio mesh.
My cuurent architecture is: multi-radio (CM9/200wM senao) in: (CM9 ptmp 5.8 backhaul) and (2.4 AP)... this I believe defeats the 1/2-factor of single radio mesh. testing WRAP + Star-OS in this setup. | |

Particularly I'm looking for:
A self-contained AP system like SkyPilot, without the need for 2-3 different routers/AP/etc boxes.
Mesh-able and multi-radio.
Support for 802.11 clients would be nice ala the Strix OWS package. | |

Once again, these products are priced to compete in the muni market...they just have "no consideration" for us poor folks!
