Personally, I use Spybot/Ad-Aware to detect the presence of a Ad/Spy/Crapware infection. Upon getting back a positive test result, I know that it's time to just wipe the damn system.

Prince George, BC		 I use spybot/ad-aware and microsoft anti-spyware, no spyware here.
Microsoft's software works great. It is after all just repackaged Giant software which was one of the best on the market.

Encino, CA		 Yeah...but the whole validation phone-home software gig is crap IMHO. The reasons for that are in another thread though.
