I agree, the freebies are the best spyware preventers available. I can't believe anyone pays for that, they leave alot of stuff behind, and spybot and adaware are the 2 best by far. |

| Well, I have a Webroot licence. And although I agree Adaware is a good spyware remover, Spyware goes further.
It has shields to prevent Spyware getting on you PC in the first place.
For me that's worth paying for.
But to react on the topic starter. Good move of Webroot. Ad/Spyware companies have no place in COAST. |

| reply to hensepens Actually, I use IE-Spyad for ad/spy/crapware prevention...and it does a remarkably good job too, without interfering with the user at all. Even old definitions (several months and going) still hold at bay most of the crapware install attempts out there. |

@attbi.com | reply to some guy Of course, most just look at the numbers and say "look how many it found!!".... without realizing that most are cookies and not spyware programs. Many don't have any idea there is a difference.

No offense, but I don't want tracking cookies either. What good does it do me to have them on my computer? Nothing...hell, they may even be giving away more information than I'd like. IE-Spyad prevents a lot of these cookies from getting inserted, and good riddance. |

| reply to Jeesh Jeesh and someguy, Oh believe me, I know the difference. You're not dealing with a noob here. I lose track of counting how many times Spybot thinks a PC is clean, when SpySweeper will find real, not traces or cookies, spyware running on the PC. Free is good for what it's worth. Witnessing this from a real world, hands on experience with countless PCs speaks for itself.... -- "When you set yourself on fire and aim for the sky, you hope to leave behind some sparks of heat and light ... JammerMan79 Premium,VIP join:2004-05-13 Prince George, BC | I use spybot/ad-aware and microsoft anti-spyware, no spyware here. Microsoft's software works great. It is after all just repackaged Giant software which was one of the best on the market. |

Thaler Premium join:2004-02-02 Encino, CA | Yeah...but the whole validation phone-home software gig is crap IMHO. The reasons for that are in another thread though. |
