 Extending a wirless network

I am trying to extend a wrt54g to a range of around 1000ft it will be leaving one place that has an exterior of siding and entering a place with a brick exterior and traveling through 5 or 6 walls total.there are no trees but it does go up hill and the hill is about 30 to 50 ft high. Does any one have any suggestions on what I need to get and how much it would cost.

2.4 ghz through a hill?

good luck.

you're better off buying another access point and bouncing it around the hill.

if you don't want that option you would need two high gain antennas (one for each end) and POSSIBLY an amplifier on one or both ends. I should also mention that if you do get an amplifier, legally you have to notify the fcc and have them come out to inspect your station.

you may also have to buy some poles/towers to get the antennas high enough that they can go over the hill, thats another 50-100 right there for the hardware and cabling.

two decent antennas ~$175 total
ONE amp ~$200

another ap ~$70

Actually the building I am going to is on top of the hill so I just need to get the signal to the top of it instead of around it.

if you don't actually have to go THROUGH the hill then two yagi's or two parabolic dish antennas should do the trick fine. the problem is they definitely work best mounted outdoors, which may be a pain.

How far away can the antennas be from the wireless card and where would I find them at. I got one antenna it is a high gain antenna, and I pointed it in the direction I need to go in, and I lose the signal about 30 yards from the other building.
