what??? newshosting lets you download via http? I thought this was only easynews. Can anyone confirm?
I used newshosting a few months ago. You can download via http if you have a limited account (eg: 10 gb a month). Use this url:
»webnews.newshosting.com/

I've been a member of easynews for several months. The 10 GB/month was okay on my old, shittier connection. Then I found Newshosting. They don't have quite as good of completion or retention rates as easynews, but for 5 bucks more a month, I can download endlessly.

Oh, and no, there is no http access that I am at all aware of.

Hitachi369....

I thought I read someplace on Usenetservers site that they added more storage and have brought the binary retention time up to 23 days but I can't find it now. I have been using Usenetserver for some time now and I am very impressed.... especially since it maxes out my 5Mbit connect unlike my isp Cox usenet server which limits me to only 180Kb/s on 4 threads total and thier crappy 3 day retention time.....

Thank you all for your response. That pretty much cleared it up for me. It appears Newshosting is the way to go for me, especially since many has praised that provider on BBR. Thanks again for your answers .

I'm interested in paying for more downloads since the 2GB that I get with Giganews provided by Comcast is not sufficient enough. Why is limited more expensive the unlimited? Since your downloading more I would think the cost will be higher. Maybe I'm missing something here .
Just a word of warning, the term unlimited, doesn't actually mean unlimited in Giganews, they will cap your speed after you pass I think about 100-200 gigs, though I guess that wouldn't matter anyways since Comcast would call you and tell you are downloading too much anyways.

There are better and cheaper services which offer unlimited to. Only difference is there retention, Giganews has about 50 days retention.

»www.newshosting.com 15.00 a month 25 days retention
»www.usenetserver.com 15.00 a month 21 days retention.

Re: [Newsgroups] price difference between unlimite

One of the advantages over the unlimited account that you get with the limited accounts is more connections, which means more speed.

That's the difference with newshosting atleast.

But to tell you the truth, I don't see a whole lot of advantage of having the limited account over the unlimited, so I don't know why it's more expensive.

With some companies the limited plans may offer more concurrent connections to the server, more servers to choose from, and/or longer retention. I have an unlimited plan at a flat rate every month, and so far, it does what I need it to do, so that's the way I prefer to go. YMMV.

[Newsgroups] price difference between unlimited and limited

I'm very new to USENET and so far it has just blown me away how much faster it is when downloading compared to BT. I'm interested in paying for more downloads since the 2GB that I get with Giganews provided by Comcast is not sufficient enough. Why is limited more expensive the unlimited? Since your downloading more I would think the cost will be higher. Maybe I'm missing something here .
