| CDMA phones and providers suck, end of story.
Telus did the exact same thing with their version of the V710. Yet again one more reason not to buy a CDMA handset. Unlocked GSM handsets are far better than any of the crap you'll get on CDMA. -- Bigot - Someone that has won an argument with a Liberal. Yes, I CanChat. Can You? www.fiberal.ca |

See, Rogers has had their entire analog network overlaid with GSM 1900 since 2001, but didn't really get going until 2002/2003 when they threw on GSM 850. I can get a GSM signal anywhere there is a CDMA signal, and I can even get a GSM signal along Lake Erie where my parent's Bell Mobility CDMA/AMPS phones can't even get analog. Things are quite a bit different between Canada and the USA when it comes to coverage. The fact that you guys have commercials with a guy going around saying 'Can you hear me now?' proves that -- Bigot - Someone that has won an argument with a Liberal. Yes, I CanChat. Mind you, I never leave the Interstate, but I've had decent GSM coverage along I-90 from Buffalo to just east of Erie, PA. I've also had coverage throughout most of rural Niagara County, NY, even on the backroads. -- Bigot - Someone that has won an argument with a Liberal. Yes, I CanChat. Can You? www.fiberal.ca |

Up here, we have more digital than analog coverage The only advantage with analog is if you have a large analog bag phone, like a licensed 7W unit. Our GSM phones are 2W in 850MHz. -- Bigot - Someone that has won an argument with a Liberal. Yes, I CanChat. Can You? www.fiberal.ca |

Marie, Ontario and Thunder Bay - I know there is none Unfortunately there's AMPS and some areas of CDMA on Superiorwireless Superior Wireless isn't CDMA, it's either TDMA or GSM, because Rogers has a roaming agreement with them for Northwestern Ontario.
I do know that on Highway 11 between North Bay and Timmins, there was GSM coverage. It died out once or twice for a while on the drive, but there was certainly access if you were in the right spot of the middle of nowhere. -- Bigot - Someone that has won an argument with a Liberal. | The information I had said that they were already a TDMA shop, but that may have just been speculation based on the fact they were a Rogers roaming partner. Still, even if they're running IS-136 right now, upgrading to CDMA wouldn't be unheard of. Bell Mobility did that back in the 90s, and US Cellular is doing it in the USA right now. -- Bigot - Someone that has won an argument with a Liberal. Yes, I CanChat. Can You? www.fiberal.ca |
