Download speeds are good enough.

Upload speeds are not improving at the rate of download speeds. I have very little use for additional download speeds but I could use significant upgrades in upload speeds.

Cable companies realize that most users are averaging 100kbps or less daily so offering higher upload speeds do not cost them (and they disconnect those bandwidth hogs that try to take advantage of these speeds anyway).

Re: Download speeds are good enough.

exactly. i've had 5mbits for a while now. i find most sites can barley do 3mbits. of course, bit torrent and other p2p will max out your 5mbits but not http or ftp.

i'd be happy with some more up. it should be at the very least, one fifth of the downstream.

pardon me...but some of us just have more needs than the average user...I don't use P2P apps at all (I say this because I know thats what you think when you say bandwidth hog)...however my activities on the net saturate my Cable modems upload nearly all the time. I don't hog it for any purpose other than accomplish those things that I have a Internet connection for, all of which are legal legitimate activities.

By bandwidth hog, I did not mean those that saturate the downstream every now and then. If you look at average DAILY bandwidth use you will be surprised how little it is so additional downstream bandwidth will not enhance the Internet experience much.

Often, when you try to use 1/4th or more of the available bandwidth on the average suddenly your find yourself being classified as bandwdith hog. By analogy, these broadband companies would like to offer a cake but they are not happy if you eat your cake all. So, size of the cake does not matter if you can only eat so much of the cake. (size being 3Mbps, 5Mbps etc) The size of the cake (bandwidth) is effectively an advertising item.

I also see that you could use more upstream bandwidth as well. Now, that is something to enhance your internet experience. I definitely would like to see more upstream bandwidth increase rather than a yet another downstream boost. If upstream is not going to keep up with downstream, I would rather stay at my current levels and pay less. Broadband companies are not offerring what the customers really need.
