While your point is taken about using resources in general, they have commited to use a certain amount of resources to create/maintain the game and use it as a marketing tool.
That being said, mass-cheating on the level that currently exists makes the money they have committed a waste, so they feel the need to protect it. |

The government can do more than one thing at once...and they better be with all the money I give them every year.
