You can't get the digital video service for $29.95 per month, because you have to pay an extra $5.24 per month for each decoder box.

Hmmm, that would certainly be misleading if they didn't include the first box.

Hopefully someone getting the triple play chimes in.

I used to use Verizon DSL with their phone service for $90 a month, with OOL I wind up paying the same price for better internet (and phone) plus cable TV. So for me..the decision was simple, especially with my DSL crapping out and the techs blaming it on me (Check the NYC Verizon threads to see how much trouble people have been having). After a year, FIOC should be available, so the cost should stay low or get even lower, so I'm pretty happy with the setup.

yes, the first box is free

they actually got me back in a "double play" offer, since I had left CV 3 years ago during the YES disputes (although I stayed with OOL) - they gave me the deal on iO gold and OOL without having to sign up for OV

Figured you'd chime-in negatively about this. As a matter of fact, just got it installed and the 29.95 includes the DCT. First month, with taxes, was around 98.00 for phone, digital cable, and OOL (which kicks your Verizon's ass in both customer support and speed.)

Thanks for clarifying that. Serves me right for believing what's published on Cablevision's web site.

As far as Verizon's ass is concerned, the best customer support is one that you never need. And I haven't had to call Verizon customer support. My DSL connection works 24/7 for months at a time, which is something that my OOL connection never did. Plus, the best thing about Verizon DSL is that I'm giving Cablevision $500 less per year than I used to!

And, of course, my Verizon phone service is $17 per month, which is much cheaper than that crappy VoIP service provided by Cablevision, and my phone works all the time, even during power failures.

For me it was not really "better internet", just faster internet. As the price went up, usenet access deteriorated to a point where I subscribed to a third party provider, effectively upping my monthly fee by $12. Usenet isn't a big deal for most I guess but it killed OOL for me.

Yea, cheaper than OV because it has zero features...

I get unlimited long distance and all of the features of verizon's complete package. Ha, you don't even get caller ID for your $17.00/mo. Ah, and if it isn't metered, we both know that it's more than that when you factor in their user fees and taxes.

My cell phone has all the features I want, including free long distance, plus a bunch of features that I don't even know how to use. And I can take my cell phone with me; try to do that with OV.

Bottom line is that I see no reason for VoIP when my cell phone is even better. And the $17 (including all taxes and fees) POTS line means I'll have reliable E911 service even during a power failure.

So will I. I have a battery backup. Enjoy your celly when the towers are maxed during an emergency...when you'd likely actually require the use of enhanced/emergency 911 service.

#1 - It's likely that your OV service will die during a power failure, because Cablevision does not properly maintain their battery-backup equipment.

#2 - I'd use my POTS line for 911 during an emergency, so any cell site problems would not be an issue.

So you pay 12+ dollars for e911.

Also, there is a brand new hardened battery backup/power supply at the node just in front of our building. They demonstrated the capability of OV with power failure for the tenants as a selling point if they had a UPS. It works beautifully.

I'd be curious as what maintenance that thing needs and if CV gets around to doing it when needed. I wouldn't count on it to run for more than a few hours. Good for the occasional outage (if you have your modem in a UPS) but probably not for an extended outage.

I have the triple play package with two digital cable boxes. I am charged $8.68 a month for two boxes ($4.07 each plus $0.27 a month for each remote). Maybe I am just getting screwed but as far as I can tell you are charged for each and every box you have.

They do charge you for the first box - it is NOT included. And they even charge you for the remote.

They aren't charging me for either separately.
