Or maybe it is because they are flat broke and paying $20 for a cd or dvd is not exactly within their grasps.
I don't understand this new mentality. When I was young if I didn't have the money to buy something...I didn't get it! Simply because young people do not have the money to buy a CD does not justify theft of the same. I don't have the money to buy a Lexus LS430.......
I never said it was right , but when I go to colleges to do contract work on thier routers and thier cores , this is the typical answer given.

The funny part is the wear $100 jeans and $90 shirts but won't pop $20 for a dvd or go without it. Instead they download it. I guess it is just one of those things those of us who are older just won't understand.

The law isn't coming after anyone.

In fact there hasn't been ONE trial on this. It's all smoke and mirrors. They've basically thrown massive amounts of money around to accomplish nothing. Considering they (MPAA members) had ANOTHER record year in profits this year, they'd have a tough time proving the part of copywrite copyright law that says free duplication must materially affect effect the owners welfare wellfare. Uh oh.
Well what It amounts to for the MPAA is each unauthorized duplicate copy made of a movie means some revenue is lost to the maker of said movie or what have you and poor quality copies make the original maker look bad as some people may not know It's an unauthorized duplicate copy of an Original real McCoy and I'd rather see the High Quality version and not a low quality duplicate.

actually if you read the recent article on internet pirating »www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.0···ite.html (www.wired.com) you'd realize there isn't someone buying it. I know I wouldn't go buy a cd just to rip and put on the internet to share with a million people.

know what's funny, someone has to have bought the cd or dvd to get the copy out, and i know i let people borrow or make them copies of cd's and stuff that i have so they can enjoy it, so in the end their going to get it for free anyway.

Yup but I still don't get it...

I'm not very old, just 31, and I was a headbanging heavy metal kid in late 80s and early 90s. So I was rebellious myself a bit but... oh well...

I think it has more to do with rebellion in youth. They think it's a small thing to rebel with so they do it. Or maybe it is because they are flat broke and paying $20 for a cd or dvd is not exactly within their grasps.

I know plenty of students who work 40 hour weeks and school who really can barely afford to eat , calling home to their family every other week for $100. They get the nice free internet from school so they use it.

As far as sharing. I love to share to my knowledge of computers and software writing for no charge. I actually enjoy seeing some one say that they understand something after I explain it.

Maybe they get the same feeling but from sharing movies or music ? There is however a lot of things I just don't get that i could turn into a comedy special.

I understand "freedom of speech" motto, but if you are sure that the law will come after you if you do something against it, why do it?

I mean can't the bittorrent hosters for motion pictures and mp3 files see that sooner or later, they're not going to be able to fight with the army of legal experts these folks have with them?

Why are some people obsessed with giving people free movies and songs, that I can't answer... Folks end up watching movies for free and listening to songs for free, and in the end someone else either goes to jail, has his/her equipment confiscated, and be the target of a bajillion law suits...

I don't get it...
