| How to InsightBB > WRT54G
Hi. I bought my buddy who has InsightBB, a WRT54G wireless router. I dont know his cable modem brand, but he has a few boxes running through it. I have read a few comments that suggest to clone the IP of the modem to the router. Is this the preferred method? Not real sure. I have the same router, except I run it using a satellite connection, where my static IP is the gateway of the router and the DNS server is the DNS from DirecWay, using DHCP. Can someone enlighten me on the best way to do this?
Thankx in advance Merry Christmas |

I did NOT clone the MAC address previously when I was just using the router by itself. Of course I can't clone the MAC address of the VOIP adapter that is registered now.
You will see other users state to clone the MAC address. Others will say they didn't have to. Everyone seems to have had different experiences.
I think Insight has become a bit more router friendly. But this FAQ might be a good start.

| reply to rgb30b I used the clone MAC address for my router setup. IMO this is the best and easiest solution. That way I can unplug the router, plug the network cable back into my registered NIC's MAC address without changing any settings or re-registering anything online. Makes it easier to trouble shoot if a problem arises.
Just my opinion, there are lot's other ways to do things. |
