Re: any VOIP over dialup (56K modem line) ??

it is very possible. If you are using a G723 codex *x-lite softphone with this codex* the quality sounds like a good cell phone signal. If your connection gets much below 26, your quality will start to suffer as well. There is limited Lag and the clarity is solid. I was testing it for our ISP, running audio streaming and what not, and that didn't even have a lot of affect on the line. However, like I stated earlier, if you can not get a good dialup connection, I wouldn't recommend it because the clarity will start to fade.

Dear azz777,

This is for your info.

The best voip I've used does deliver crystal-clear line quality on dialup... no irritating breaks and static!

It requires only 8kps bandwidth delivered to work and thus works beautifully on a 28.8 kps connection. Most other voip solutions require at least 20 kps which is difficult to maintain for an extended period of time on dialup.

The fact that it's proprietary software also helps because software written using standard codec encryption codes would already require more bandwidth than dialup can handle. And because it does not use publicly available encryption code, it is very secure... voted No. 1 in Europe for VOIP Security.

It does cost $11.66 to use but there is an optional income opportunity for the HAPPY user who can see the big potential in corporate customers, head & branch offices, vendors and principals, etc requiring a highly secure internet phone service to help them save big dollars in international calls.

Free trial available at »tinyurl.com/4ggcm

Good luck for your VOIP trials....

The rates for that service aren't cheap: 4 cents to paris, 15 cents to mexico.

Yes, I'm sure there'll be cheaper... Their strength is really their ability to provide unlimited crystal clear PC to PC calls, in a highly secured environment, to anywhere in the world, with no phone charges (because it works with wireless, broadband as well as dialup!)

Why hasn't anyone suggested Net2Phone?

I have 2 solutions for you.

1) a hardware dialup adapter that is configured with your ISP info Called a YAPJACK, or

2) a software application used with a headset.

With solution 1, the preferable one in this case, you simply purchase the adapter plug it into your phone line and then plug your phone into it.

To place a local call just pickup and dial.

To place a LD call pickup the handset, press the large VoIP button and dial, shortly after you finish dialing the device sends your call to the server and your call is connected.

For more information go to : »www.net2phone.com or contact me at voip@surefiresolutions.ca

Impossible!! It can't be done!

Seriously though if someone accomplishes this then more power to them. But if you have 56k dialup anyway then why do you need VOIP? LOL Gotcha on that one...

There are many instances of why one would need VoIP over dial-up and it can be done...

This is Bill McCready from PCPhoneline.com and your comment is definitely right on the money. We have thousands of customers using our products with dialup connections worldwide with effective speeds in the range of 20-30 kbps.

You must of course use a narrowband VoIP service provider which supports the G.723.1 codec like Dialpad, IConnecthere, Callserve, Phoneserve, MyWebCalls, Dualtalk, Globalphone, Go2Call or Globaltel. There is also of course Skype who use the ILBC narrowband codec.

The demand for VoIP using dialup Internet connections is definitely still very high worldwide.
