Re: Setting Up New Service

Thanks all for the help. I got the modem and router installed for them, with some pain. The modem was a D-Link and the router was a Linksys 54g. I would have chosen different brands, but that's beside the point. I could see the router was picking up a 10.*.*.* IP. I was able to go to Insight's registration page at the URL given by 'ripn'. However, after entering the registration code and such, I was getting 'page cannot be displayed' errors. We tried rebooting the cable modem and renewing the IP address to no avail. Unfortunately, we had to install that crap software to get any further.

Finally, my friends were surfin' and amazed at the 'instant' display of web pages that they were not used to!! That's what happens when you're on dial-up for over 5 years. Here's to hoping each computer doesn't have to have the Insight software in order to function correctly. I imagine it should be straightforward from this point WITHOUT having to reinstall the software. Thanks for the pointers.

As the FAQ and several of my links pointed out. There in fact is no need for the software. The url given to you by qos1 See Profile is included in the FAQ and links above. Along with detailed instructions on how to get things up and running without the software. I'm running two machines with a VOIP adapter and router on Insight without using any of their software. I detailed that in one of the links above. The VOIP adapter is the device registered with Insight. My router is connected to it. The other pc is connecting wireless to the router.

I know what you're saying, but we could not get through the entire process UNTIL the software was installed. Maybe I was not being patient enough, but IE 'page could not be displayed' errors were happening after a certain point in the authentication process. This was even after rebooting the modem, the router, and the computer. In fact, I made sure IE had no 'proxy server' set. I came very close to having to call non-support, but I decided to be patient instead. Perhaps it just took a while as I noticed your pages stated that a new account actually has to go through 2 processes: the SAS and ICOMPS. It may have also been a coincidence that DNS worked after installing the software. I forgot to note at what point we received an IP from the 12.*.*.* pool instead of 10.*.*.*.
