I'm thinking about switching to Insite from DSL. When I ask about any download limits they said if you download to much you'll get a call from the abuse center. How much is to much? What is the daily limit? |

1: Daily limits 2: Which plan Reg or Plus? Is Plus worth it? |

| There are no daily limits to my knowledge, and if there were, I'm sure I'd have hit them by now.
As for the plan, that depends on your needs and budget.
I'd never expect to get advertised speeds from any company. I typically get around 3.6M to 3.8M down and just under the 384K up. I don't have the plus package. If you need the extra 2M down and 128K or so up, and you don't mind paying the extra 70% or whatever it is per month to get it, then go for it. IMO there's not enough of a value to justify the cost. If it were 8M down and 1M up then I'd consider it.
Think about it though, how much do you do that will require more than 4M down or 384K up? If you are wanting to do hosting of some sort, that can be done for MUCH less than $30 per month, and your users won't be painfully suffering through sharing your download bandwidth of 512K/sec or whatever it is for the Plus package. |

| reply to vcdburn No, it's just little (fat) old me here on the pc. I currently download at 1112 down, so both will be an upgrade. I'm a newsgroup LEECH, Current Transfer (since 12/02/04) 111.59GB, Projected Usage 237.89GB... I don't know if thats just because I'm slowed by download speed. I do have those days where I don't see anything to download, but when I do see something it's 5gb (wink wink)
I just worry about them freaking out when IP XX.XX.XXX.XX. downloaded 14gb in one day! |

| That's a lot, and it's entirely possible I guess, but I haven't seen it happen yet.
There's no contract w/InsightBB though, so if you get it and it becomes an issue, just cancel. |

| reply to vcdburn 14 gig a day glad I am not gonna be on your node. IMHO that's abusive , most I have ever did in 1 day is 5 gig but I rarely download and I sure don't download every day. -- Broadcasting The Classic Hits 24/7 SauceMaster Radio!!!! |

| reply to vcdburn The only usage cap I've ever seen stated has been in regards to newsgroups. »Insight BB Forum FAQ »Are there restrictions for InsightBB newsgroups?
»Does insight have a download limit on newsgroups?
Both links are at my Insight bookmarks page.
There may in fact be a daily limit. But I've never heard of anyone crossing that limit and being warned. I'd say if your constantly doing large numbers this might set off a red flag. For your account to be looked at. Depending on the month I can do some heavy usage. Other months I do hardly anything. I've never received a warning etc in regards to my usage. Personally I've always stated I feel Insight has one of the more relaxed policies in this regard. As for 14 gig - this easy to do if your into playing with DVDR. With a name like vcdburn - I'd think that might be the case.:) -- Test Your Security

@endustfiltration.com | I download between 2-6 gigs a day and have never gotten a warning. There are some days I won't download anything and then there are some that I might DL 9GB. I've had insight for two years now with no problems. |

@insightBB.com
| I download gigs a day. Never had a warning. Had insight for 3 or so years. The only time I was ever contacted by insight was when the MPAA emailed them about my ip being used on a torrent for an episode of enterprise. They emailed me a warning and that was the last I heard of it.
My advice is, get the basic package because plus isn't cost justified. Secondly, use protowall or another of the ip block programs to keep out THE MAN. |

| reply to vcdburn With my INsightBB connection I have had several days where I've successfully downloaded more than 10GB a day from my newshosting.com unlimited account. I went to newshosting when I got an email from Insight about a copyright complaint from the MPAA.. I was downloading a movie using Bittorrents.
So.. I can't say that insight caps downloads.. BUT..
There have been several instances where I would que up 20+gb of NZB downloads in Grabit (my binary downloader).. then I would walk away.. come back the next day and find out that the download crapped out some time in the night.
During the next day or two I would try the same NZB files individually and they would get the correct files just fine.. so the NZBs wheren't bogus.
It could be that insight pulled my IP in the middle of the night when I reached some kind of daily limit. Or.. maybe they were doing some kind of line maintainance.. or maybe my DHCP lease was up...
Bottom line.. .. I'm not sure,,, |

| Thanks for the info drewrw..

That means that my download problems are probably related to my download client.
OR...
The plop just thinkened... I just realized that I have my virus software set to do a full system scan at 1am every morning....
I wonder if that is causing my overnight downloads to blow up.
