I'm on the phone w/them right now, and there was an automated message stating that there are still problems in Rockford.

This is a typical Insight response. I've had lag issues and have even gone as far as changing my cable modem and router. Now the techs at Insight are saying my lagging problem is because of my Xbox.

They never want to resolve anything.

I am having no problems in Rockford. Last speed test shows 3667/355 which seems to be normal for Rockford.

355 is an interesting point to NOT go past. Same here in Louisville. No matter how many times I test, 355 is it.

"355 is an interesting point to NOT go past."

With overhead. I'd say that is about the best you'll get with the 384 upload package. It might spike a bit more now and then.

As for the pc being the issue. Offer to provide them evidence that your pc is virus, malware and spyware free. I'm sure then they will blame the software firewall or router. If one is in the mix. Unfortunately this is the game that has to be played. You could always be hassled and have them come out to check the line. Maybe something has gone bad somewhere and needs maintenance.

It is possible for a users machine to be a factor in things. But I'm not sure how they would come to this conclusion. Unless they had access to the machine and had done the proper security scans.

Same, I'm having super slow speeds in Rockford/loves park too. Although, my parents aren't, they are getting 3000/300 or about. The cable went down over the weekend, Saturday I think, and after it came back up we are lucky to get 700/300. Upload doesn't seem to be affected, I actually thought upload was capped at 250 for our area??

All 4000/256 customers have been upgrade to 4000/384 recently. So you should see close to the upload speeds plus users used to get.

Actually, I have tested quite a bit and it spiked only once to 356. Otherwise it is very consistent. But I'm fine with that, at least I can always hit it.

In terms of the slow speeds have you guys considered that it might (just might) be a coax cable or splitter issue? I have a brand new cable from the pole all the way to my modem. I did have a single splitter in my office for TV and the modem and with that I have had speeds of 3100/355 out of 4000/384 then the other day I had satellite installed and thus I was able to remove the splitter and go direct to the modem. My download increased to 3700/355.

The splitter was a good one: Monster Cable with 3.5db loss. A bad splitter or cable somewhere could hurt much more than the 500K gain I saw. Just an idea.

I work at Insight. As a technician. If an Insight tech told you it was your computer, more than likely it is. At least most of the techs there are very good techs.

Except for neutron's experience. That was a pretty dumb excuse for lag, especially since an xbox(unless you are on live all the time) wont create much lag.

Drewrw.... there is nothing wrong with my computer:)
Up here in Rockford we are very overloaded on the nodes(More than one Insight tech has mentioned this and I have a few that are friends)

I hear there is talk about splitting up the nodes around here.

Maybe that would help the slower speeds.
Thanks for your response:)

I realize there is a node overload in Rockford, especially since i work at insight. All I was saying is that if a tech said there is something wrong with your computer, there is good reason. For example, we have to bring up your modem on your node on your blade and on your upstream port(on a cisco router) which never lies about signal or power. WE always ping the modem and the computer. If we get a low ms time pinging the modem and a high one to your computer, a red flag is set off that something on that computer is slowing down the connection. Now, if a tech pinged your modem and got a millisecond time of say 20-30, there is definatly a problem with the speed, which indicated MAYBE a node overload. I just thought i would give you some insight on what we as techs do at insight. Thanks

Since there is an overload, the nodes will be split up, just a matter of time when the feild tech's get to it.

I would make sure to attempt everything with and without you router/firewall in place. Make sure everything virus/spyware side is up to snuff etc. At that point I would keep runnin the signal tests and the lik here and keep emailing them those. I would also have them come out and doink around with your lines. Also pay close attention to how you cable modem line comes in... is it using the one for the tv ? I've seen this as the caue if the lines in your home are old, or the tv line was old an the installer was lazy.

Everytime I've ordered broadband I've required them to run a new line dedicated for the cable modem from the pole to my modem. May seem a pain in the butt but it helped me a couple times now.

Here's another good one....

One time the higher up Insight tech came over and they said the problem could not be discussed(confidential) and they gave me a free month of service!

Another time one guy called another tech...he came over to help.... and the guy said to tell me there is something wrong with her pc until we can figure this out..

I followed them all around my yard asking them WTF was going on... they couldn't tell me.

I don't run any routers, servers, or anything..... I do NOT have any pc issues either.

They have tried to lie to me on more than one occassion and I busted their balls every time.

What the hell is that comment supposed to mean?
Are you insinuating that I am a dumbass?

I really didn't deserve or appreciate that if that's what you're thinking.
